Inside dimming rear view mirror
Hey guys, since I mostly hang out with the C1/C2 forum I sorry if I missed this topic in the past.
I have a '99 vert and would really like a auto dimming inside rear view mirror. Was this an option in early '99 cars? My '04 Chevy truck has one along with temp/compass. It would be really nice to have a stock/factory looking mirror that dims. Has anyone done this mod? Any ideas? I would like to retain the interior cabin lights that the factory one presently has.

Thanks Steve8. More info there than I'll ever need. Thanks for the link to that thread. Looks like Mike did a really great job. Now I know what my next project will be.
You can find an auto dimming mirror on ebay about every couple of weeks. All you would need to do is pick one of these mirrors up along with the wiring harness. I bought one awhile back that included both mirror and harness. If you you decide to go this route, and can't find both the mirror and harness and need a harness contact me I have a harness.
I would watch it. Just got an old Caddy as a "winter rat". It has an autodimming mirror which when turned on also dims the driver outside mirror if it sees headlights on the photocell. IT DIMS TOO MUCH.
I very RARELY turn it on. Normal headlight coming from the rear make the thing get so dark you can hardly see the cars behind you. Sometimes MANUAL is BETTER. BIGHANK

I think things have gotten better. I just bought a new Dodge truck and it came with an auto dimming mirror that dims just the right amount. I love it. Never had one before but now I wouldn't be without it. I think better electronics over the years have helped.
Seeing as 1Sweet66 has his answer, how do you all find the performance of the auto dimming mirror on your Vette?
I have to say that at times I wonder if mine is working. It never seems to react enough to get the glare right down. Maybe I got a bad one? Based on the performance of mine I'd rather have a manual mirror.
Looks like BigHank has exactly the opposite problem to me.
