Checking an Electronic circuit, the first step is to make sure you have the correct supply voltage. Low or high voltage can cause problems. The battery loses power when setting for an extended time and we all know that. And we also know C5's have a history of Electronic problems with sensors and readouts on occasions. So, after receiving the Smart Charger this week (From CCA) got me to thinking that keeping the voltage at a constant rate has got to help. The computers send and receive a signal from the sensors, so the voltage must be close for it to be accurate. Of course GM won't tell you this because they love to sell parts. I just think maybe a low supply voltage to the computers over an extended period of time may be an issue. What do you think?
I never had any problems until my FRC went to tuner and stood there for 7 weeks. Result was column lock recall. What a coincidence.
Well, now it has a new column lock but again never had any other issues. I do use battery tenderer if it is staying in garage longer periods than one week.
I had big time problems with my 02 with 3900 miles on it when the battery went bad and had to be replaced. Steering wheel lock, door module, new battery, etc. Over $1000 to fix everthing. Just my advice, but don't let your batteries go dead. You been warned. (oh, I am sure it doesn't happen to everybody or everytime), but if you have my luck, well you know the story. JMHO
When my battery started to go I would get a charge system fault code at start up. Then it died at work, had to jump start it and it was throwing one code after another at me on the way home. New battery end of problem, nothing else. Got lucky.
