I have been really thinking about what can been done to the stock seats to give them more support. Well it looks like I was not the only one looking into this!! I may try this here soon and I will let everyone know how it turns out. The only addition I am thinking about it adding a thin piece of foam between the seat frame and the leather. I just don't want to risk putting a hole in the seat cover because I over looked something.
This is a fairly simple modification that will increase the lateral support in the stock seat backs. Also, it's completely reversable.
Step 1: Move the seat forward and unzip the back. Unfold the seat cover side, exposing the support foam.
Step 2: Tuck the outside flap inside the structural support.
Step 3: Fold the cover back over the lateral support and repeat for the other side. Before you zip up the seat, you'll need to align the two "rails" that fasten the lower edges of the seat cover together. This is a pain, but it just takes a little patience and some muscle.
My one concern would be the exposed structural support now chafing the inside of the seat cover. Over time, that could result in a tear, or at the least, some form of bulge or protrusion that would match the contour of the support.
I agree...the stock seats sort of suck...the one's in my C4 were better.
I was looking for something to give more support also, and didn't want to change out the entire seat. After sittign in a car who had done this, I did it as well. Using the stock seat frames, ECS uses better leather, and much thicker padding, and the results were dramatic at the tracks I run. Nice and tight, and since the eat covers have a pass through in them, you can use a six point harness over your sholder, instead of around the seat. This doesn't answer the biggest problem with the seat which is lack of lateral leg support.

Interesting mod... and for sure the lateral leg support is something that I find frustrating. In fact I keep feeling my leg dent the speaker grill when I have it braced on the dead pedal. So far it keeps popping back out, but I can see it getting stuck at some point. :-(

Mine broke. And the left side of the seat back has a bad habit of snapping out of place and falling all the way back mid-corner on the track. Real fun when you're doing 90+ through a turn
I hate the feeling of the speaker grill flexing but I don't know anyway around it. I think I might also try laying a sheet of anti-skid material in the base of the seat. You know the foam stuff you put in tool boxes and cabinets. I have heard this works pretty well and does not mess up the leather.
