One thing to keep in mind, if the car is to be a 125 mile a day DD in Tennessee, is the tires. If it doesn't have all-season tires, you will need to keep some $$ in reserve for them.
OK... What about a price on a 2004 with just under 32,000 miles. Been sitting at the dealer for a long time (over 6 months) so they are eager to move the car. They say they have more than they are asking into it though. Asking price is $29,900. Still a little high of where we want to be on a C5, but...
As far as I have gathered it is a base 2004 with painted roof and Bose. Not sure yet if it has HUD or Z51.

You are right about the red car, too much for that many miles.
I dunno about that second part, I looked long and hard and didn't see any 07s THAT cheap. Maybe at a dealer auction...
You should be able to find him a great car for a cheap price this time of year. check the classifieds here on the forum!!!

I hear ya... I have been checking the forum classifieds. The problem is that the only cars I am interested in have to be red, auto, coupe and fairly inexpensive. There are a lot of great looking cars at great prices, just not with the right specs. I will find THE one sooner or later.

Depending on your relationship with your father-in-law, and your knowing the risk you're taking with it, the internet is your friend. Look at AutoTrader, craigslist, and C5s for sale in this forum. When you find possibilities, give them to your father-in-law to sort through. When he zeros in on one, HE should do his homework/research using the VIN to obtain a CarFax, vehicle report (free from any Chevy dealer), and an inspection by a reliable/knowledgable Vette expert. This way, you've provided the requested "help," but are in no way responsible for HIS decision to buy. Happy hunting!

Thanks for the information Jack... It's all good though. I will admit that I am about at the end of my rope with him. He wants something for nothing and I haven't found that yet nor do I expect to. For some reason the phrase "you get what you pay for" doesn't mean anything to him.
Can someone run a VIN so I can find out what options a particular car has?

You can do better than the one you describe, and I agree with the previous comments about him finding the car himself.
There are plenty to choose from.
I've read a lot of posts here about 'letting your father-in-law find his own car". I guess those who wrote those posts have a rather poor relationship with their wifes father. I happen to be a father-in-law and don't understand that position. I guess it simply has to do with the relationship some in here have with their in-laws. I find that doing something with my kids and their spouses to be some of the most fun things in my life. AND, even if I was not a car person, any help I could/would receive from my son-in-law would be appreciated. After all, I'd be the one actually deciding IF I wanted a particular car, not them. Could this attitude toward extended family be a 'reflection" of what's wrong with our country?

My thoughts too RSchleder!
I do have a great relationship with my in-laws. They are a great family.
P.S. You live in my hometown (or very close anyway)
