Default Throttle body question

What size is the stock TB on a 2002 Z06? Would I benefit much at all from a BBK 80mm TB?

When you change the TB, you might also want to add one of those vortex devices like you see on TV! Guaranteed to improve performance and add 10 MPG!

get it ported....you'll get close to 80mm just doing that..you'll also see a bit better acceleration and response..and anecdotal information says you'll get expect ~5-10 hp

You mileage may vary........

Unless you are going with heads/cam, or increasing cubes then your money is better spent elsewhere.......unless you believe in hype and just want "braging" rights of "I've got a 80mm throttle body"

Think of it this way ....

You could put a 100 mm TB on the engine .... when does it actually use the full width of the TB ???? Only at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). At anything less than WOT the TB has this "thing" called the throttle plate that controls the airflow through the body. Ragardless of size of the TB, the plate only allows a certain amount of air to flow to the engine dependant on what power you are requesting from the engine. At anything less than WOT the size of the TB makes absolutely no difference to the engine's performance.

Even at WOT, the TB is only one part of the equation that determines how much air gets into the engine .... your air cleaner, size of the intake system, cam, valve size and opening size ...... there are so many issues that just putting on a larger TB MIGHT buy you a couple of HP ..... not much more.

Its not worth the extra bucks and trouble over 6-7hp. Get the VR velocity stack for about $50bucks. Youll get a noticable gain.If were talking about a stock or near stock motor, paying $300-$500 isnt worth it.

Believe that. I was one of those idiots who went out and bought a bunch of junk for my car and in the end, I ended up selling it for a major loss due to the fact that I did absolutely NO homework. It is good to see you are doing your homework. Now I am putting my money where it works for what I want. Headers, cam, (rear which I could have bought months ago if I would not have wasted my money on crap), etc. Good luck on your parts search, It never ends, and is very addicting
