2 QTS, Now that is something, I wouldn't drive it with 9 qts in it for sure, Jack it up and remove about 2 qts. simple and a lot safer than driving it.
Bill K
PS, You have to tell up how you put 9 qts of oil in your motor. Hope it wasn't Mobil 1...
Don't have the ability to jack it up. Have to take it somewhere with a lift. I don't do any of my own maintenance on the car - have neither the facility nor the desire.
Yes it was Mobil 1.
Long story short, it was dark and the car was leaking fluid of some kind(turned out to be coolant) and there didn't appear to be any oil on the dipstick. Even after adding a quart it still didn't register on the dipstick. The next quart registered above to line on the dipstick. I wasn't there, my son was driving it.

Aaah, the joy of having kids. If he can't tell the difference between oil and coolant, keep him away from the car.
I don't know the exact answer, but it's not good having excess oil like that. Get it back to normal asap.

So let me get this right, There was something wet under the car and your son thought I will just put in more oil, It wasn't even oil it was anti-freeze, 2 things here, 1. Get him to an automotive class and 2. keep him away from your car.
Are you sure he put in Mobil 1?
Sorry for your mis-hap.
I would be pissed as heck.

Can you tell the difference between coolant and oil spread on the asphalt in the dark? There wasn't enough to even get it on your hands. It was new Mobil 1 - hard to see in the dark.
I have no problem with anyone driving the car - it's(and I know some of you will consider this sacrilige) just a car - a nice car, but a car nonetheless. Now if it were one of my old Mopars, that would be a different story but the C5 is a daily driver used hard - and no emotional attachment for me.

No, there was a big pool of liquid(about 6 or 8 feet) and the oil didn't show up on the dipstick in the dark. And I'm the one who put the oil in because it wasn't showing on the dipstick. Do you think an automotive class will tell you the difference between coolant and clean oil spread on the pavement in the dark? The look and feel pretty much the same.
And, although I appreciate your sentiment, I try not to get pissed over cars - doesn't help a bit. It's just a car.

Sure you can tell the difference between oil and antifreeze, One simple smell and feel will tell you. That would of been the first thing I checked for to see what it was...
DO Not DRIVE The Car !!!!!
If you get bearing wash... it will destroy your engine if you drive it... Bearing wash can occur at 8 qts.
sorry to sound dumb , but, what is bearing wash ?
I've been around racing all my life and never heard of it.
I do agree that driving it overfull by that much is
I know the oil would bet whipped into a latte consistency which is very bad
Air in oil is

No dumb questions here... bearing wash is a common term here in the North east.. high oil level is an amount in excess of ten percent of the manufacturers fill value.. anything over this can put the oil level in contact with the crank, a few thousand rpms and the oil is foam.. the pump wont pick up foam. your cam and crank bearings become washed out because of this condidition..
bearing wash bearing washout once the bearing get washed out it only takes two seconds to destroy them.

They may look and feel the same in the dark but oil and coolant sure as heck don't smell the same. Did you start the car and let it run before you checked the oil? I'm guessing no, because if you did, you would have had oil on the dip stick. SO YES, MAYBE A LITTLE ENGINE SHOP 101 IS IN ORDER.
Now for the value I will bring to the table. Over filling the oil has caused many to have the seals/plastic split on their oil pressure sensors. If you are still one of the lucky ones that still have the brass fitted sensor, your going to want to drain that extra oil without running the car. Once you blow the stock brass sensor, your going to be stuck replacing it with the aluminum sh*t that the manufacturers are making now. Try to savor the original brass sensor for as long as you can.
