No, i wasn't going top end. Got stopped for going 38 in a 30...ho hum. Police officer asks for license and proof of insurance. I was a nice guy, and courteous, called him "sir". It would have been ok if he had written me up, but i have learned a couple of valuable lessons. Be polite, and don't feed the guy a line of sh#t.
He said "did you realize Mr. G...., that you were speeding?" I didn't give him some limp excuse, what i said was, "Hey sorry about that, but i must have had my head up my ***". I was still shuffling through sh#t in my glove box looking for proof of insurance. He similed and laughed, said, "hey never mind the proof of ins, how about you just hold it down." I said "Hey man thanks, i appreciate it" He was still laughing as he walked back to his car.
Once i got stopped for going much faster. The LEO and i were talking and he said, "you know you are so nice i really don't want to give you a ticket". I said "then don't". He laughed and sent me on my way. I can't guarantee that these techniques work every time. I've had a few ticket, but don't complain if i was speeding.
last time i got pulled over it was a rookie cop and it seemed like he got a bonus for every MPH over i went .....buy the time he got done writing me a ticket ....you would of thought he made SGT
The last time I got stopped the "officer" (a Lt. returning to the station) pulled me over and after the usual up front chatter asked me why was I speeding. I said, "Because I didn't see you." He laughed, told me good one and let me go.
Pays to be honest and hope the dude has a sense of humor.
Not necessarily, or the cop REALLY liked us. My friend recently took me for a ride in his modified 2008 Corvette(which is insanely fast BTW) and he punched it and we reached 130 in what seemed like mere seconds. Lights flashed behind and he pulled us over. I thought we were going to jail, mind you this was NYE, and he just told us to slow it down. My friend was polite and honest and let us off the hook.
Always be polite, always tell the officer what you are going to do(reach for wallett, reach in glove box, etc.) always keep your hands visible. Three keys to putting the LEO at ease. The more you put them at ease with your actions, mannerisms, the better the chance you might get off easy.
And if that fails, you get ticked off, and you are getting a ticket anyway......remember to NEVER threaten them. You can call them anything you want(insert your favorite name here) but you can't threaten them.
Back in 70 driving my 69 roadrunner in San Jose Ca. Crusing the main. Made a right turn on a one way street got on it and went sideways and jumped out of my car showing off for my friends. I turn around and cop with his lights on pulled behind my car and said what in the hell are you doing.........I said officer I was showing off.....he yelled at me for awhile but than he let me go........thank you lord.
1. Courtesy is contagious. Extremely important.
2. LEO is out there putting his/her life on the line and doing a job.
3. Most are decent just like most of us.
4. There are a small number who ???
If I get a ticket tomorrow, I will pretend that it is for the 10,000 times that I should have gotten a ticket.
I got pulled over for doing 84 in a 55 and got a ticket and her phone number out of it
I got pulled over doing 100 in a 55 at 3 am on my way home from my girls house. Cop asked why I pulled over he said he could have never caught me. I said "I can out run you but I cant out run your radio." He told me to have a good night.
