If it hasn't been done, maybe a thread about those that own manuals, would you buy one again on your next Vette, why or why not? ...same idea for a thread on automatics....surprise!
I think something like that has been said in threads like this but I'll toast it anyway
It just seems like there is only so much we can talk about and repeats will happen regardless of how many dead-horse-beatings-gif's one posts. one more time....

You're probably right. I should probably get a dead-horse-beating for that idea
But I do like the previous idea for a thread, "Reasons that caused you to miss a gear?"
I would never own an auto corvette. I have my scca racing license and not being able to "drive" a car kills me. On the street I heal-toe downshift into corners, to pass people, or for a little engine braking.
The ability to hold a gear right a 3k rpm in order to pass someone ect is priceless to me.
I have over 800rwhp and I refuse easy mode (autos) for track use. I'd rather be the one to pilot the vette to my 140mph trap speed. The auto guys pull up, push gas pedal and stear. Where's the skill in that?
I got tired of A4's so when I got my C5 it *had* to be a manual. 6 out of 8 of my last cars were A4's and while you could tune the transmission to a point you still get thoes wierd situations where you stab the throttle and the car is sluggish.
I love driving the 6 speed even with the bad socal traffic.

thank you. finally someone who understands. i love how everyone keeps telling me how i need to tune the car not realizing (or not listening) that i have already done that, and changed the trans and changed the torque conv. and changed the differential and added a supercharger and ect, ect, ect.

Sounds like your next mod should be to put in an M6 tranny, if nothing else has worked yet, can't hurt to try it.
I find this very odd... but why is it that used C5's with Automatic transmissions are much cheaper than manuals? I found atleast 5 98-99's with 30-40k miles for under $22k. The best I could find on an M6 is 97-98's with 60-80k miles..
I was planning on getting a manual c5, but I came across an auto c5, with a s/c and other work done for below kbb price....needless to say I happily auto-stick mine

Because people that "just have to have a manual" will pay (re: overpay) to have one.
I have a friend who insists upon driving nothing but manuals... in fact he said he would rather drive a Acura RSX Type S (6 speed only) over an automatic C5 or LS1 Fbody. I tell him he is rediculous and that automatics can be extremely satisfying depending on the car and that just because it is indeed and automatic... that doesn't mean it is significantly less car.
What do you guys think of this? For example, I was looking at a friends car, he was selling it and I was considering buying it. It was a 1998 Camaro Z28 with 48,000 miles on it (he owned it since new and barely EVER drove the car) it had chrome zO6 wheels, BFG KDW tires, SLP long tube headers, flowmaster exhaust, LS6 intake, stall converter, shift kit, it was lowered, 20% window tint, lid...He put down 369whp/373wtq and he wanted $8,500 dollars for IT!!! He no longer cared about the car and he wanted to move on to a fox body project. I told my friend and he simply said "Ew, it's an auto I don't care what it is or how cheap... it's an auto"
I'm like WTF youre crazy...
And now he is looking for a C5, he wants to spend between $16,000-20,000 for the RIGHT car. He found a 1999 White Coupe M6 with 67K on it for $19,450... and I found a 1999 White Coupe A4 with 30K ON IT! for $19,000 FIRM! No go because it's an auto...
I just don't get it! Can you help me understand...
For a car that is 11 seconds and faster an auto is better hands down. Humans cant shift faster than a machine. All real racers know this, thats why I didnt buy a Z06 and went with an A4. See sig.
Choosing between either a manual or an automatic, is very similiar to choosing whether or not to be a male or a female. They are very different, and each one fits certain personalities better than others.

Sorry but I trap more than 20mph higher than you and with a 6speed.
Your theory may hold true, but more like the 8 second bracket and faster.
I have driven a couple glide equipped cars and 9 seconds was like driving to the store compared to how violent my car is. Where's the fun in that though? Plus mountain sprints aren't half as fun.
A stick only for me too. My first Vette a C4 vert bought brand new, was an automatic. I found I hardly drove it. Just seemed boring to me. Traded it in for a 4 cylinder Z3 stick. Loved the heck out of this little beast. Upgraded to the /// M Roadster 6 cylinder stick. Loved it even better. When I traded a few years later for a Gen. 1 V10 Viper stick, well hated the car, loved the stick. Next car, a Porsche Boxster S stick, a great car. Fun but needed to run in to high RPMs all the time. Made it work to drive. Then came my new C5 Vette. Stick. I LOVE it. Ya know, if I got a stick in the first place on that first C4, I may have saved myself allot of money.
And, I enjoy rattling the pipes allot more with the help of my stick...
I have nothing against automatic Corvettes, except the optional feminine hygene pad dispenser attached to the gear selector keeps getting in my way (just kidding).
