Default Push button starting on a C5

Ok, i was just wondering what it would be like to put push button starting in a C5 and if anyone has ever done it.

Do you need a key fob in your pocket for PBS, or is it really just push a button and start the car. didn't a porsche or some exotic have it?

what do you think is the feasibility of this.

i don't plan on doing it, just throwing ideas around.

and I am FULLY AWARE of the extreme safety/security issues with having a car anyone can start. for the price of a new window someone gets a new ride.

You mean like a keyless ignition system like whats in the C6? or just some plain start button? if thats the case it can be done but as far as I know you still have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to on lol. kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me. The topic has been talked over on the forums do a search it pretty much seems the consensus is it just isnt worth it.

I'm sure you would have to come up with some way to bypass the PASS II system on the C5 to make it work. Someone with more knowledge than me on that topic will have to chime in.

Yeah, I am talking completely keyless. Like you open the car door, sit down, touch the button, and your engine roars to life.

and great idea on the fingerprinting. If you can buy a $20 fingerprint reader for your home computer that just plugs in to USB, it would seem really easy and cheap to set one up in a car.

guys...but I think BMW did this to one of their high-end sports cars last year, I'm sure fingerprint entry, but not clear on fingerprint ignition without key. I'm looking around trying to find it.

I may have been confusing this: "Comfort Access system offers an even greater degree of convenience: keyless access to your car. Simply carrying the remote key in a pocket allows you to unlock the doors by touching the door handle. You can also turn the engine on or off by pressing the Start/Stop button without first inserting the remote key." on BMW's 2008 M6 /series with keyless ignition.

I had an idea to use a toggle switch to turn the accessory on and then a push button to start the car. That way you could dispose of the ignition all together.

Then on top of that, I would have one of the Clifford alarms installed. The Clifford has a code you have to press in on a small pad (2 buttons) when you start the car. If its not entered then about 500 ft down the road the alarm beeps a couple times to let you know you never entered the code. This gives the owner time to press in the code. If its a theif or someone that doesnt know the car... then it stalls in the middle of the road and the alarm goes off. It cant be restarted at all till the code is entered and takes to long to bypass.

Hell. that works like crap on my laptop. The last thing I want to be stuck doing is swiping my finger a thousand times while Kelly Rippa is saying. "You can have your way with me if we can get home in 5 minutes!"

Boy, if I had a dollar for everytime that's happened to me...

I'd have like zero dollars...

Seriously, my idea was to do something like this:

http://www.seco-larm.com/760PPISS.htm

or the

K9 "Sombra" Hands Free Car Alarm / Remote Keyless Entry System (available on eBay)

with the #L75X relay here

and a switch like the S2000 switch....

Still have to figure a away to turn on accessories (which I reckon has to be on before you can start) and avoid the VATS issue...

Okay, that technology is slightly different from what is on my laptop. Obviously more reliable too!

But speaking of Kelly, shall we all take a minute to allow our minds to wander...

Ahhhh, yes........

Now, back on topic. I think I would agree with those who have said that it would probably be more trouble than it is worth. Also, some of the security suggestions I have seen on other threads are probably more effective with a fraction of the cost.

The Nissan Altima I rented last week had the push button start. Just carry the fob in your pocket. Button on the door handle unlocks the door. I was starting to like it.

As for Kelly Rippa....easy on the eyes, but a little too yappy for my tastes. Duct tape, anyone?
