Had an Opel GT before they owned a vette? You do know it was always called "the poor mans vette" My hand is raised...I owned a white with red interior.

Never had one, several friends did and they were working on them more than I did on my Mustang, I barely fit in them to small for a big guy, but the ladies liked them

LOL I had a good amount of problems with mine too, and I had a 67 Mustang Vert that I wish I still had! I had built that 289 up so much that when I sold it I took the engine out and sold the car and engine to different people! But the Vette bug bit me at 17 and I was not able to to get the medicine...(buy one) till I was 50. I am ok now and hope I will have a long happy riding life in my now 2nd vette!
My very first car was a opel gt ,it was red and cherry i put a set of deep dish cragars on the rear and smallers up front it was a tight little car until a women ran over my front end after the accident i purchased my first vette !!!
I had a 1970 Opel GT, orange. deep dish mags, rejetted carb, new distributor, dyno tuned, koni shocks. A real screamer with maybe 95 RWHP. The handling was very good, not as good as my 1275 Sprite, but very good compared to most everything else on the road.
Here, go buy one:

This is something, had a blue 70 Opel-GT, 4 speed, enjoyed it. Owned it probably from 79 to 87, had to part with it, but I did love it. These memories make me want to cry. The other day I answered another post about an 87 Trans-Am GTA, black on black, I owned and loved also, my only problem is I have no pictures of any of them, only memories. Hurricane Katrina robbed me of all those pictures but I do have one daughter who survived Katrina "almost" untouched and she's looking in all her old scrapbooks to see if she has any. I'm not looking for sad luck stories because of Katrina, I just thought I would mention it simply because Katrina is the reason why I don't have any of those photos to post, that's all.
I wanted one at one time. My older sister had an Opel but it was not a GT, I remember my dad syncronizing the twin carbs on it quite often. Riding in it wasn't much different from riding in a VW bug with the noise and vibration. I never drove it, It got crashed before I was old enough to drive. That was 30 yrs ago but I still remember it pretty well.
My brother had a 1970 GT. We drove it non stop from Northeast Oklahoma to Yellowstone National Park in the summer of 1971. Then the second day we drove from Yellowstone to Glacier National Park on the Montana/Canadian border. We spent a week backpacking in Glacier before heading back to Oklahoma. One of the things that impressed this 16 year old (at the time) was the fact that Montana had no speed limit at that time and we could drive for an hour or more at 85 mph and not see another car. To my knowledge my brother never had problems with the car. He let me borrow it one time to drive to school and I proceded to lock the keys in it. The locksmith we called just couldn't quite get the car open until we had to go back to class. Guess he just didn't want a bunch of teenagers watching him pop the lock and getting ideas All in all not a bad little car for the time.

The neighbors down the block had a really nice looking orange one, but we had a baseball/golf ball sized hail storm about four years ago and the car was smashed. I would like to have one too.

My German immigrant parents had 3 different Opels (and a few Chevys) when I was a kid. I always wanted a GT but didn't have the $750 or so that they were getting for clapped out ones back then. I ended up building a $50 Pinto. A smallblock GT would have been much cooler.

You couldna at least splurged for a Vega!
I would love to have an Opel GT. With a modern drivetrain, that would just be crazy. Wouldn't be hard at all to plant a V6 in there. Then beef up the..........hmmmmmm
