Well...if you are in Vegas, there's a 98 silver coupe with 11k on the clock asking for 23k. Probably able to negotiate to within your budget. M5 is a great car, but very expensive repairs.
New BMW's come with 4yr or 50,000 mile FREE maintenance, not up to 100,000 miles.
That is correct ... the "standard" warranty is only 50K miles. My dealer doubled it as part of the deal. However, it will more than likely remain useless for me, since I only put about 12K miles on the BMW per year, with no intention of keeping it longer than 4 yrs.
That is also why I said a 2000 BMW is not recommended, regardless of its mileage.
Not sure why your even considering both the M5 and C5. Two completely different cars with different purposes. The M5 is a touring sedan, the Corevette is a sport car.
The Corvette will have better performance, at the sacrifice of passengers, and a harsher ride.
M5 will ride much nicer, has good handling for a heaviweight car, but it's no sports car.
In the end, it's what you want.
Although, I don't think your going to be able to touch any M5 for 20K that's worth buying. C5's are getting near that range, but 25k for a late model coupe is more reasonable. Wait till you have to repair something on the BMW! I hope your credit is good, cause you'll need to get a loan to pay for repairs.
PS. For all of us who complain about "Corvette tax"........you should see BMW tax!!!!! Makes you glad you bought the vette!
i dont c y evryone makes a big deal outta this question...it doesn matter if their completely different cars, two door er four door, luxury er sports,im not even 18 yet i dont 'need' either of them,I JUS LIKE EM!!! n if im gonna b spendin up to 20 g's im gonna get wat i rely want
n the only reson im lookin at m5's now is becuz i do want to have owned one in my lifetime n the only model i like is the last one,it was an instant classic..n if im gonna own one of those i want to own it b4 it gets to old or outdated
Its a hard decision for any of us to make. I feel that they are two very different cars. Buy the one that suits you needs or you will be selling it in no time. Just my .02
I agree, I would be afraid of the BMW's maintenance/repair cost.
Someone mentioned a Cadillac CTS-V, you can get a used 400 HP one cheap. New 2008/2009 CTS-V will have 550 HP, but at $60,000 it is out of your price range. All old CTS-V were 6 speeds and suffered from wheel hop when hard launching.

Try rereading the above posts, a little more slowly for comprehension, that are telling you this is in C5 General of the Corvette Forum. It would be different if you had posed your question in Other Cars or even Off Topic, but you put it in C5. What do you expect the C5 enthusiasts to say? For most of us the C5 is not the only car we have, it's just the one we discuss and share views of in this particular part of the Forum.
Ahh. the forever question of car guys/gals... which one will I be happy with.
Personally, I would drive both and see which one you like at the end of the day.
I like BMW's. My wife has a 04 3 Series. Its a good car. Can you rent one for a day.. weekend? Maybe not a M5, but a 5 series? See if you like it as much as you would a Corvette?
I would be getting the vette. I had the BMW vs vette issue a few months back and I got the Vette and could not be happier.
Good luck in your choice.. either way, you should be getting a nice, fun car for daily driving!
well it looks like ill proly b goin for the vette jus cuz i kno there will b no disappointment in that..i did find an m5 with only 38,000m for 14k, does anybody kno shipping prices from australia lol?

You are talking about an E39 body M5 aren't you? 14k? it would have to be ragged for that price.
My other Car is a 2002 Mercedez CLK 430 AMG and i love the car ....i would think that my benz and your m5 would be kinda the same and they are right ...the maintenence on my benz is stupid.....oil change is 100.00 and everytime it goes for its regular service i spend at least 450.00 fun cars to drive but definantly not a vette.
The M5 is a great car and in my opinion you can't (or only with very high financel effort) improve the drivability and quality of the M-chassii and suspension. The manuell gearbox ist one oft the best I know.
Possible defects are from time to time window regulators, power door locks, front wheel bearing, redounded transverse control arms and pixel mistakes in the display menus.
In Germany you should never buy a M5 E39 with more than 120tkm, when you are not able to make the payment for an engine overhaul as tribute for autobahn speed.
Maybe it sounds not so good, but that's false impression. The M5 is a fantastic car and every car has his own specific problems.
I'm driving a lot of BMWs since more than 25 years (also some M's) but for me the C5 that's just about the limit.
Every ride with my C5 I have a grin from ear to ear in my face . It's a much more emotional car and I'm sure you can drive the C5 in USA much more cheaper than a M5 .
C5 for the choice. However the M5 is an awesome car and would make a badass DD. But if I had to choose only one it would be the Corvette, just more my style of car.
Because its like asking "which is better? A Desktop computer, a laptop, or the latest game console?" It really depends on your needs and what you are going to do with it. They are all 'computers' ('cars') but they have different purposes and will have + and - compared to each other.
Your not even 18 yet...
Considered buying a car sight un-seen and having it shipped from Australia, and to top it off has that "too good to be true" price on it??? Not a good idea man.
Either an M5 or a C5.. you will spend every single bit of 20 g's (I bet more) no matter how you slice it. Then there will be SUPER high car insurance on top of that. And of course high maintenance costs on either vehicle. Last I checked at any auto shop dealer or not.. an oil change for a C5 is $100 also. Not saying the C5 will be as high in maintenance as an M5, but we all know it cost more $ to maintain the vette then it does our daily drivers. And most of us don't even put that many miles on our vettes!
Don't ask for advice and then criticize it though. Especially when you don't make your situation known.
Asking in a General C5 section of a Corvette Forum to compare a C5 to a 4 door sedan...
Wonder what the m5 forum said to you when you asked them about vettes?
