Hello, im getting my first car in 10 days, which will be a c5 coupe, from a dealer unfortunatly. I can either do that, but from each side Im being pushed to get a new 07-08' Mustang GT New from the dealer. I'm Defenitly leaning towards the vette, but i just wanted advice on what you guys think, feel free to explain all aspects of my question. [financialy, Speed, fun, Long run Ect..] Please dont tell me to get a vette from a private seller, i do not have that choice. Thank you.
First of all, welcome to the Forum. If you decide on the C5 then welcome to the wonderful world of Corvette ownership. I don't think you'll get many recommendations to buy the Stang on this forum. I'm not a Ford hater, my PU is an F150 and I like it, but I LOVE my Vettes. The C5 is a Hipo sports car and the Stang is a muscle car. Depends on what you enjoy driving. The C5 will handle better and is faster than most Stangs but it costs more. Drive both of them and see how they feel to you. It's your choice but if you're looking for someone to recommend the Stang you're probably in the wrong forum.

Welcome to the best forum on the net! First - fill out at least your location in your profile - it helps to know approximately where you are if you need assistance with something. Second - punctuation is your friend - it makes your posts easier to read.
As far as which one to buy - being the CORVETTE forum, I'd guess that the majority of the respondants are going to advise buying a Corvette instead of a Mustang. A used C5 will still outperform a large majority of the stock Mustangs....that's not to say that there aren't some fast Mustangs, there are.
And that's not to say that the Mustang is a bad choice - it's not. The Mustang has a long heritage of 44 years, a strong racing and high performance heritage and who can question the Mustang's popularity? But the reality is that the Corvette is not in competition market wise with the Mustang. Apples to oranges comparison in my mind. The Corvette is considered by GM as a Halo car, the Mustang is not the same thing to Ford.
I can't advise you - you have to decide which car trips your trigger and then you need to buy that car. But consider this - the Corvette is a car of which dreams are made. You'll read many stories here on how a new owner has dreamt of Corvette ownership since childhood. The Corvette is America's Sportscar. There have been many competitors for the throne - and after 55 years, the Corvette still reigns supreme. The nearest thing to compare the Corvette is a Harley - the owners of both share the same kind of passion. I truly believe that you either have that burning urge deep in your belly to own a Corvette or you don't. If you have that burning urge - nothing but a Corvette will do it.
there is something to be said about vette ownership. could never understand what the big deal about owning a harley was. till i bought my first corvette. now everytime i pass a fellow vette owner the wave is there. always thought the wave that fellow harley riders did was really dumb. not any more. now i even get harley riders waveing at me. i remember stopping at local bar for harley bike night and i was in my vette. sure did draw a crowd american made proud!! i don't care what year it is a corvette just says something. it was and still is the best american sports car out there. don't have a problem with mustang owners. but they sure get on edge when they see my vette!!!! i was actually looking at a mustang gt convertible when i bought my first vette. believe me when i tell you. it was the best decision i have ever made about owning a vehicle. new mustangs are nice cars. but nothing compares to the feeling you get driving your corvette. good luck on your decision.

Test drive and decide. I always wanted a 'stang , but when I drove a vette, I changed my mind in a nano second! Mustangs are a dime a dozen and I can't tell a V6 from a V8 unless you are side by side. My friend has a kick A** GT, but my vette still get all the attention! Good luck with your choice!
Depends on the year, miles, model, and condition of the C5. If it's an older C5 that's not darn near perfect, then I'd say go for the brand new Mustang. Test drive them both and you'll probably be able to answer your own question Let us know what you choose.
1. Mustang will have less problems and will be cheaper to maintain because it is a new car.
2. Vette will be cheaper to insure.
3. Some Vettes are as fast as the mustang (2.73 Autos) others are faster (Z06, M6 Vettes)
4. I would not want to have a Vette as my first car... it is a bit too flashy and way easily wrapped around a tree with all that power.
This is a no brainer. vette. And you did ask this in vette central, but seriously. Everyone has a stang, everyone can have a stang, and every vette can smoke a stang. Curb appeal, engine, look, everything goes the vette way.
I say get the C5 without question. The only selling point a stang has is backseats...if you need them. But as far as I am concerned they are not necessary. Kids aren't allowed in my car and my wife is a lady! lol.

Go for the 'Vette. It's your money, if you feel like your being pushed
into a Mustang or any other sub-par choice kindly tell them to
back off and if they don't tell them you'll take your business elsewhere.
You're the one in charge, let them kow-tow to you.
If you don't need a back-seat then really the C5 is the way
to go but,of course I'm biased.
Get a Vette,,,,, you won't regret I am willing to bet that no one here will say get the Mustang,,,,,,,,, right guys ! You'll have a better resale with the vette, and it just an all around better car !!
I'm taking every persons opinion into consideration, the main deal is, i saved up some cash, but since im going into college full time right now,(pasadena art center of design) my parents are telling me NOT to work, but to concentrate on school, they want to pay the payments for me. so they want me to get the car I will enjoy driving for 45 minutes back and forth for years. Ive driven a friends vette before (02 z06 and 99 FRC). I basically have it down to 100% getting the vette. If any of you think im stepping up to a car thats too fast for me, i dont believe so. ive been driving my brothers 05 v6 mustang for almost a year now, and driving a vette is such a pleasure. Thank you!
98gt, svo head, svo roots blower. Very quick car on the street
98gt, PI swapped, trapped 104-105
and at 25, I feel that I am ready for my first vette. Many people on here have vette's much younger than I, and congrats. Some people are mature enough and have enough respect for a nice, powerful car as a vette. But as a first car, I think your better off with a stang.
