I really like the pics I've seen on here of tinted tails. I want them on the car but am affraid they will be too dark. With that in mind, I didn't want too spend too much or make a permanent change-ie paint. I got enough smoke vinyl to do all of the lights on the back of the car and the two corner markers for about $50 to Canada. I haven't put them back on the car yet so I really don't know what the final product is. Here are the pics so far.
These are lights
I was worried about seeing red in the screw holes so I painted them.
This is the right side tinted with the flash on.
Flash off
All done
Flash off
I also did the back up lights. Sorry, no pic.
What I learned:
1 I take horrible pictures :o
2 The vinyl was fairly easy to learn how to use. I'd never done it before but I think I got pretty good by the end. The true test will be when they are installed with the bulbs in.
Good job. What degree of tint does the vinyl have and where did you get it from? I've been toying with the removable stuff myself as the paint is permanent. Can't wait to see it during the day.
I'd like to try that but I don't want to go quite so dark. I'm afraid the police here in Cali won't be so understanding to these mods. I'd be interested in knowing what degrees of tint are offered for doing this too.
I find it very interesting---some of us want brighter lights so we retrofit LED tail lights. Others put tape on them and tone them down! Ahhh, the decease of MODDING!
Thanks guys Unfortunately we won't get to see working pics on the car for a month or so...still winter here in Edmonton
I got the vinyl off that auction site from a company called metro decals (.com). I can't tell you what percent tint I got as I didn't really think I had an option. If you want a non-permanent, cost effective tint, I think this is a really good option. I enjoyed the project (it helped with my cabin fever a bit ) and think anyone can do this. And if I think they are too dark or get hassled by the LEOs, I will just remove it.
If anyone wants a link to an ebay listing for this company, shoot me a pm and I will get it too you.
