can we use ethanol mix ?

1.) corn that makes ethanol would never ever ever be food for you, I don't know how often you eat FIELD CORN but I only eat SWEET CORN
2.) One of the byproducts of ethanol is..... feed for cattle / chickens etc.
3.) running a very high % ethanol will decrease your gas milage, less BTU's per gallon, however, true 85% ethanol is typically 105-115 octane.. yes, good for boost.
4.) E85 burns cleaner if your motor is set up for it.

What I wouldn't ever suggest is that Ethanol is the solution to our dependency on non-domestic oil, or that it'll save the world from pollution, my point is if set up properly ethanol can be desirable instead of some horrid thing that lots of people view it as. I live in the middle of no-where south dakota, sure it's great for people around here that corn prices are up due to demand for ethanol (not due to demand for feed for animals, PS) but it's also good that I can get some kind of gas that I can tune my car around. The best we get here is 91/ (92 if you're lucky and know where to go), and that's SOME Stations. 99% of our 91/92 octane is ethanol free, our 10% mix is typically only in 89 octane. So to be able to get E85 @ 105-110 octane in the summer at 45 -50 cents a gallon cheaper.... why the hell wouldn't you?

As for private industry driving it, ask Verasun and Poet what's driving who... Industry = good... me paying less for gas= good...
now, If you wanted a more viable long term ethanol solution (Corn based ethanol was never meant to be long term, btw..) check out sawgrass... more BTU's, cheaper to grow and make... too bad the USA doesn't want us to start growing or importing it...

If Ethanol was this great solution to our dependence on foreign oil private industry (With out Government subsidies) would be driving Ethanol not Government.
