Default Heater/AC Display dim.

OK, I think I might have my first prob with my C5, The display that shows the outside and heater temp is very dim during the day, To the point that I can hardly see it, Buttons are bright as heck and the display seems ok when I have my lights on, The display does seem a bit slow comming on also. I did a search and went through about 50 threads and it didn't help.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Bill - I have a few Word files that I have gathered up from here on the forum that deals with the Dual Zone HVAC repairs. I'd be glad to share them with you if you PM me your e-mail address. Not sure if they will help with your problem, but you could give them a look and see what you think.

If your digital A/C display is going dark, fix it yourself; or for $50 you can send it to be fixed with a 5-year guarantee to digitalguy_1@charter.net.
here's the link to a great DIY thread.

There is one more possibility too therefore the question is if your DIC display is also dim? If so, the problem will lie with the ambient light sensor in the DIC Controller as it controls the brightness of the HVAC display as well. My light sensor went bad, therefore the knowledge base.

Thanks everyone for your input, I just took out the unit and noticed it went bright all of a sudden, I am sure it is the bad solder joints, I am taking it up to my friends house today and have him redo the joints.
Agin, Thanks everyone.

I had the exact problem and fixed it myself.

First remove your center console bezel:

Next disconnect all components on and remove the armrest and armrest bezel:

Next remove your Hvac System and remove the 4 small screws on the back:

Next turn the board upside down and re sodder the 8 connectors as shown in the below pic:

Re install everything and walla, Right as Rain

Good luck
Best Regards
John

Great to see you're back in the light Bill!

I made the mistake of having the dealer replace mine about a year ago before I found this place. Needless to say it was a pricey fix because they just replaced it with a new one. The only consolation I have is I made them give me all the parts backs so I have the old one. I plan on fixing it up and offering it as a trade for broken ones.

The way the dash trim comes out you need the extra room, The Bezel has to slide back and the console is in the way, Toom me a total of 10 mins to get the comfort display out. Very easy.

Woody, your avatar is crackin' me up!

The arm rest has to be somewhat removed because part of the radio and AC bezel sits under the arm rest. You may not have to remove it all the way but you do have to loosen it up to a degree. It will make sense once you start taking it apart.
