So I took my car to the pros and had it tuned this weekend. Mike at Vengeance ran it past 150mph a number of times and set all a/f and timing to be the best possible. Assured me there was no ping from this car.
I drove it half a block and could not believe my ears. Turned around and Mike was good enough to go for a ride with me while his TechII was hooked up. I quickly recreated the sound and he pointed to the zero on his ping readout.
Mike tells me the sound I'm hearing is a valvetrain echo through the new headers. He says it is pretty common.
I have searched here at CF for valvetrain echo and not found a single post. Usually anything common has been discussed at nasium here.
So here goes.
If you have headers, do you hear a tapping echoing through your exhaust at slight acceleration (1500 to 2000rpm for me)?
Could it be only with LG Streets?
I've read on other boards about lifter preload, pushrod lengths, bla bla, I'm not going to pretend to be a mechanic. Supposedly my car is running perfect, but this noise is hard to get used to.
I had the exact same concern on my car after I had my Dynatech Supermaxx long tube headers installed. My tuner, my mechanic, and several other forum members that I consider to be FAR more knowledgeable about vettes than me, have all confirmed that this echo/noise/chatter sound is completely normal. Its almost always present in these cars when they're stock, but the addition of headers makes it audible.

Constantly. It sounds like a little reciprocating ticking noise... really fast, and generally only audible in the 1500-2000 RPM range, almost like i've got a metal screw bouncing around inside my cats or something... lol
I did a heads/cam swap with a whole new valve train, and new my setup sounds like a sewing machine... and the ticking noise is still there... Far as I've been told it's normal...
I hear a 'ticking' sound since i put on headers, I took it for an exhaust leak, All the connections are tight, Just figured it was leaking somewhere.
Just noisey valvetrain works for me, very audible at idle.
I do not hear it at all when idling, nor do I hear it over the Screaming Elephants on Steroids when doing WOT. I do not hear it at any rpm while the car is in park.
I do hear it in the dark or while strolling through the park and I do like green eggs and ham.
Seriously though, slight accel when doing regular driving like changing lanes and speeding up a bit from 1500 to 2000 rpm. WOT is glorious and always puts a smile on my face when all the other drivers around get freaked out by the scream.
