Default Custom Projection Headlights

Hey everyone. I'm new to the board. I've been reading and searching, but I didn't really see anything along these lines. I just bought an 04' Coupe and have been looking at some different things to customize the car. The previous owner installed a couple performance mods and a couple interior mods but there's still more I would like to have done.
The biggest thing on my mind is modifying the headlight setup. I've been talking to a local shop about fabricating a custom fiberglass headlight setup to mount projection headlights similar to the C6 Vettes. I love the clean look of this. I have seen the kits available but really don't like the looks of them. Has anyone done this before? The only thing I am worried about it a clear plastic cover to protect them from road debris. Anyone have any insight on this? I would love to hear any and all thoughts on this. Thanks everyone.

Lance

Default Pop-ups

What I would like to see is someone develop "low-profile pop-ups." In other words, they would look like stock C5 pop-ups, but instead pop-up only half the hight, or so.

I've done it. It's really not that difficult. I kept the original pop-up design. If you want fixed headlights like the C6, they sell those with projectors, but they aren't cheap and I'm not sure about the quality of the projectors. If you do go down the custom fiberglass route, there is a company that sells the clear lenses, but they're something like 300 bucks, and supposedly fit and finish isn't that great.

Anyways, here are some pics of my half-done setup. i STILL haven't done the drivers side or made a shroud for the passenger side. As for the lense on these, they work fine with the stock fluted lense, but I'm going to try sanding it down and polishing it. If that doesn't work, then I'll look into getting some machined.

I recently did an HID upgrade on my wife's C5.

Then there's the "Sleepy Eyes" mod.

And this thread had a whole bunch of setups.

How do you get your headlights in "sleepy eye" mode?

That member no longer posts here (GranBachis).

To do this mod, you need to get at the headlight motor stops and modify them by making them longer. The projectors came off his '04 Acura TL.

Honestly the best way to go is the ACA HID projector setup. They use only quality parts (HID capsules, projectors, and ballasts). Are a fairly simple installation which comes with the required new harness. IMO fixed headlamps just dont look right on a C5 even though I am a fan of the fixed HID headlights on a C6. Spend the 8 or 900 on the ACA kit and call it a day. The only possible draw back to HID projectors on a C5 using popups is with such a sharp cutoff some guys are experiencing "bouncing" cutoff lines from slight play in the popup mechanism.

Hope this helps.
