I can buy a 2007 brand new 1,840 miles never titled so GM Money applies for about $40,000
If you have a deal on a VERT 2007 2Lt or 3Lt for $40K if would be the Vette Deal of the year.:

I have a 99---bought it in 06 and started its transformation immediately. My husband bought his 02 vert last year and is in the process of his transformation. For me the choice is the 99. Not because I have one but because I like the C5's much better than the C6's---they just have not grown on me yet---unless they have a wide body kit or are the new ZR1

Anyway, I like the fact that I can do more to the C5 than it seems I can do to the C6. Also the only problem I have had in almost 2 years is the oil pressure sensor---I have gone thru 3 of them so far but each one was replaced by GM because they were faulty so I only paid for it once---other wise everything that has been done to the car has been by choice not necessity.

Pick the one you like the most and have fun with it

I think the big question is: what is your pain threshold for repairs?

that 100k warranty may pay for itself in frustration if the 99 has lots of trouble

if you can pay, I say get the new one

Get the C5, drive it for a few years and pay it off! Then get the depreciated C6! Then you will BOTH!

That's my plan and I'm sticking to it!

40k plus tax and tags for that, with a new warranty, and to be the original owner sounds like a great deal. Sounds like both cars are good deals. but that deal on the C6 sounds as good as any new vette deal I have heard about. It is your money and you know what you feel most comfortable with. Good luck with your decision.

I went through the same questions a little while ago (only with coupes). I ended up with a '98 coupe for less than half of a new C6. I got the car in Nov and have put less than 1000 miles on it. Because I have a bunch of other cars / toys, I just didn't want to spend the extra $ on the C6. If the Vette was going to be my only toy then I might have been inclined to go with the new one. If you're only putting on 4K a year I'd go with the '99. You can buy a lot of stuff with the extra 20 grand. That would include any repairs it might require but again, with only 4K miles a year how many repairs is it going to need?

Go with the '99 - cheaper to insure, in my state the annual tags are cheaper, don't know about yours.

Here's another solution to your argument about that "new car smell" -

Personally, I'd take the '07 - just knowing how the car has been treated would be a plus for me and the warranty would be a peace of mind thing.

I would go with the 99 for the 20,000 less. However, I do not mind fixing the occasional problems that come up. Now, I am not sure how mechanically inclined you are but if you just want a no worry pleasure cruiser than go with the 2007. That warranty is nice. One other thing, I can't find any generation vette in decent shape for 6500. Not around here at least.

Dam Suze- you are trying to make a Corvette decision based on some kind of cost benefit analysis or resale or something else.
I see nothing about "It's blue and I love blue" or those kinds of things. Buy the Vette that grabs you emotionally.
Be sure and let us know - and see - what you finally get.

When I was in your shoes I chose the C5 (1998 Vert). I put part of the C6 down payment on my C5 and ended up financing $10,000. I then modded my car with the remainder of that down payment to it's current state (minus the stereo) within about 6 months of purchase. It was my first 'vette and I don't think I could have possibly gotten any more face cramps (from smiling) by driving the newer car.
I have not once regretted not buying the C6.

Says alot. But you know you need to make your own decision. It's your car, not anyone elses here. You have to make up your own mind.
