I messed up unless I find another $20K Automatic Convertible
I've got a '99 coupe. Bought it with 48k mi and now has 78k. Only thing I had to fix is the hose that's attached to the coolant reservoir rotted and had to be replaced.
Of course the SOB's at GM make you replace the whole reservoir.
Your problems with the '99 should be minimal.
Also, Consumer Reports gave the '99 the best repair rating up through MY '03. And it was a very good rating.
Once you buy it, you'll never know the difference between the '07.
It'll pin you in the seat and mess your hair up all the same.
Good luck.

It took me 2 years of half-azzed looking and 6 months of concerted effort to find THE car! (And I found it right here on CF!!) You'll find your own version of THE car. Be patient. (Two sides to every story, or cliche. "The early bird gets the worm," or, "The second mouse gets the cheese.")
Best of luck!!
I'll probably make a decision by Wed. It is really tough. The 2007 rides a lot better and has that new car smell. It's just the cost of owning the new one and justifying it being it will be a 2nd car for me. Maybe driven 4,000 miles a year.
Thanks for the replies so far, appreciate any and all assistance with this. My friend says "If you don't drive first class, your kids will"
You can buy a can of new car smell at your local parts store.
Next decision.
Not sure if this is 2Lt know it's not 3Lt, is there a 1Lt?? Also the bottom price is $43,500 then I apply GM Card balance will be well under $40K if I do it. Thanks
TOTAL OPTIONS $3,770.00
TOTAL VEHICLE & OPTIONS $56,360.00
DESTINATION CHARGE $825.00
TOTAL VEHICLE PRICE*** $57,185.00
Great advice via Private Messages and On Board:
Found 2 acceptable 98s and theyre in the $19-20 range also. More miles but acceptable.
The guy with the new 2007 (never titled with 1840 Miles) called today they are still at $43,500 on a $57,185 list car, havent figured out if it is a 2LT or if they make a 1LT and the one I'm looking at is it.
I told him I'd let him know Friday 2/29 one way or the other. He said they won't budge on the $43,500 and than I can apply GM Card $ and get it down to $40K which is so enticing but double the others !
Well I think its a dynamic of this situation that should be taken into consideration.
Thats alot of miles to put on a car when you know its not yours.
I recently bought another 99 with 20k miles on it after looking at so many other Corvettes, amazing how you can tell the differance between an owners cars (Vette lover) and a car that came off lease.
said owners father drove it, the old 72 year old guy -hummm
Hi and did he say that the miles were only put on 1/4 mile at a time.
Check ebay, most of the cars don't sell on the auction, but you can email the seller and make a deal after. If you are diligent about checking the car out and or having it looked at by someone very trustworthy and knowledgeble you can get a very good deal there, especially this time of year. Also Autotrader.com is worth a look.
Good Luck
Paralysis By Analysis Need Help With Convertible Decision
I can buy a 2007 brand new 1,840 miles never titled so GM Money applies for about $40,000
I can buy a used 1999 used with about 45,000 miles for $19,500
I love them both and can afford payments on both.
Would not be my daily driver, would never see rain , snow etc
After sales tax, licensing etc I'd have about $44,500 in the 2007
I'd have about $22,200 in the 1999
Over a 5 year period I'd probably have more expenses with the older one because the new one has 3/36 and 5/100 on drive train
After 5 years the 2007 that lists for $57+ might be worth $26,500 if it is real low miles and garaged etc. Meaning it cost me $13,500 (plus higer taxes -licensing)
After 5 years the 1999 needs to be worth more than $6,500 with lower taxes & licensing to match the cost of the 07. Additional expenses might be offset by the lower licensing fees etc
Even though the 2007 has that new car smell and an excellent price is my logic correct if I love the 1999?
Any help including alternative year comparison, appreciated as I need to wind this process down and BUY
I think the big decision you need to make is whether to go with a C5 or a C6. Once you make that decision you can focus on cars meeting your requirements.
I don't recommend buying a car through ebay based on my own personal experience and things I have read about others experiences. It is all rigged toward the seller.
I don't recommend buying any car you can not test drive and have inspected before purchase. Too many dishonest people out there.
I don't believe the story about the father driving the car. I would drop that car from consideration. One of the most important factors when buying a car is to deal with an honest person.
Hey, who said 72 was OLD? I'm 68 and feel 29 (yeah right) and I drive my car every chance I get. And, I assure you, it's in even better shape now than when I bought it 4 years ago. "Old" guys like cars to and don't run them into curbs every other day!

I'd hate to admit how old I am , as well as how many curbs I've hit over the years
it's a personal decision for you......which vette do you like better? I like the C5 body style better...so that's where I will be staying. I think the C5's are a great value for the money. I don't see you having many problems.......not anymore than you would have buying any other vette. I would search for a clean low mile C5 in the mid teens....and then you would have lots of $$$ left over to mod it! Good luck with your decision.
P.S. I can't drag myself out and buy a 40k coupe(C6) when I know I can have a C5 Z for low 20's.
