I've had my mostly stock 99 Hard Top with now 28K miles since last October (~5 months). I've driven her ~2500 miles. I've added about a quart during this period. Is this normal?
Driving habits = not very aggressively, however I do put my foot in it once in awhile.
Knock on wood but mine only needs oil when I change it... Of course most folks know I don't drive mine so I'm not sure I count....
Yeah I agree why would you be adding oil any other time other than during an oil change unless there is something wrong? So to answer your question I add no oil between oil changes. I dont add any to my 03 Z06 and didnt have to for my 99 hardtop either.
Hope this helps,
J.T.
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I may have an oil consumption problem. Anybody have an in site on what the contributing factors could be for having to add oil between changes?? The guy I bought it from said he put in oil that was supposedly better than Mobile 1, not the Purple stuff, something else...don't remember the name. I don't have any leaking or blue exhaust.

Oil loss can come from a variety of sources. Most common in LSx motors is oil loss by the rings into the cylinders and out the exhaust. This is most common at high rpm, low load conditions and was very common in the early LS6 motors that had numerous TSBs out on oil consumption. Depending on how you drive, this may or may not be noted by some. Other possible causes include loss into the PCV system (take off the intake at the throttle body and see if you have oil in front of or behind the throttle plate). To correct this, many guys that track the car disconnect the PCV system from the intake (where it dischages to) and connect it to a catch can. Then there is the obvious oil leaks. Not really sure how common any of these were on the LS1 in the 99 FRCs, but suspect that there are similarities given how similar the LS1 is to the LS6.
You might try a google search for TSBs (technical service bulletins) on your car and look for titles regarding oil consumption.
Another common cause often overlooked, and probably the primary difference between the losses from one oil brand to another is the oil's volatility. Many low cost oils essentially evaporate at the oil temps seen in the Corvette. For an example, look at the NOACK Volatility results on this AMSOIL commissioned test: Comparative Motor Oil Test Nov 05
Mine goes about 1500-2000 miles and I need a qt of oil!! Thinking about doing a re-ring, not sure when though... I wonder what it will cost to do a re-ring.?$?$?$?

Alot more $$$ than the oil you are adding!!! 2001's are notorious for oil consumption.
To the OP: 58K, no oil consumption here, and I don't baby it but I don't beat it to death either.
