borla straight pipes?
hey guys, im wanting to know if anyone has a sound clip of the borla straight pipe setup on a relatively stock z06. i want this setup for my 01 z, and i just want to know how it compares to the stingers. Also i may want to gut out the precats but i need to know whats involved in doing this, and the possible power results. thank you in advance.

The sound gains going from stock Ti's to Borla XR straight pipes is not that much if you keep the stock manifolds and cats.
I ran my car that way for a couple years and it was just a sharper yet muffled (by the cats) bark.
The huge sound gain came when I switched to headers with the open Borla XR's. Then when I put the cam in the sound got louder and nastier.
Power gains from gutting the cats is minimal if any - just ups the noise a little.
The 427 with the open pipes was too loud even for me, well not too loud for me perse, but too loud for me to run the car near other people hehe.

I have the borla xr-1 system on my car and I was running straight pipes for about two weeks. I loved the sound VERY LOUD!!!! Sounded like a Nascar car coming down the road. I got pulled over twice in the two weeks for the noise. I then went back and put the resonator on.

I can't say (didn't really get on it with the saleskid in the passengers seat), I was checking the car for an out of town member. He drove it home 600 miles and immediately started searching for a stock Ti to replace the Borla's with.

you wont gain much from a catback only, although you dont have the stock Ti on the 01, so you could gain a few. i have a magnaflow straight pipe setup. it droned at 2k with stock exhaust, and now with full straight pipes(longtubes, off road x and the magnaflow) its pretty dang loud. so loud im putting stock Ti mufflers on it.
but, it sounds good and like it sits, it doesnt drone very bad at all. i just want to be able to cruise nice and quietly, and not attract attention from the popo's

Wrong! I have all stock except the Borla Straights and it sounds way louder and better than the stock Tis. Built my own partition this winter and i really hope it kills the drone, because it is bad.

I have TPIS LTs, Random Tech high flow cats & X-pipe and HAD GHL Bullet Exhuast. comp cam 224/224 .581/.581 112 lsa TPIS PP TB and other goodies ~ 402 rwhp 405 rwtq
When I took the GHL bullet exhaust off and put on the straight pipes, again not Borla but still 3" straight pipes, ~ 409 rwhp & 411 rwtq. There was also some tuning changes and new springs put on the lifters at that time too.
On the stock heads, there will be some SOTP gains, not alot but some.

You may think the stock 2001 manifolds and cats through the XR-1 is "way louder" - but its only slightly louder
TRust me - once you put on headers, you will get to appreciate what WAY louder means.
In this video you get a sampling of, stock manifold through stingers, stock manifold through XR-1's, TPIS headers through stingers, TPIS headers through straight XR-1's.

I know someone that has stock exhaust except the Borla straight pipes and I think it sounds like a boat. I dont like it all. The Stingers or Bullets sound 100x better and are still way loud.
