Being a beautiful day, I jumped in the 'vette this morning to run to work and nothing...no juice....no go...when i get home this evening, I hook up the battery charger and when I turn the charger on, the under hood light blinks, DIC flashs in sync with the blinking light and there's all kinds of chattering as various relays seem to be checking in and out in time with the lights.
I disconnected the charger and ran in to ask the forum what is going on...I've used this charger on other vehicles but never experienced anything like this....
Ya I have been there too.
Sometimes when you put a charger on a dead battery, the battery acts like a big resistor thus dropping the voltage of the charger from 12 volts to something the car does not like
Have a good one and keep us posted.
Hopefully your battery will be ok.
Wanted to let everyone know that the now fully-recharged battery is alive and doing well...drove the lovely ride today...even through one hellacious thunderstorm....now it's time to go wipe her down....
thanks again to Fireman and those who responded to my hour of need...ya'll are the best....
How long had it been since you had driven the car?? You can have the battery go completely dead in 4-5 weeks without starting the motor. Even if the battery shows 12v it's dead. A fully charged battery should show a voltage from a minimum of 12.4 up to 12.6v
Invest in a battery maintainer to keep the battery at full charge. I use one of the $7 Harbor Freight maintainers and leave it plugged in whenever I don't expect to drive my 02 for more than a couple weeks.
Keep an eye on the battery. Depending on the age of it and how far down the battery state of charge went, it's possible that the battery got sulphated. Sometimes a quick heavy charge (60A or so) will bring a battery back to life.
