I just celebrated my 55th bday and I'm looking to buy my first vette. I've been looking around for more than 6 months and love this forum. I test drove two low mileage C5s ('98 & '01) last week and plan to drive a C6 this week ('05). It will be strictly a fair weather car that I want to enjoy for highway cruising. Which one has a smoother ride? My budget is $35k. THANKS in advance.

Mike - get the one that gives you the biggest grin
You're asking this on a C5 board. What do you think the answer will be?
A lot of people on here will probably still tell him to go for the C6 though.
For instance, even though I own a C5, I'd still tell him to get a C6. I know someone here in Toronto who was just about to buy a 2004 Corvette about a year ago and I told him about a C6 that was for sale locally for only $4000 more than the C5, and he ended up buying that one instead. He drove it for a year and now just picked up a brand new Crystal Red 08 coupe. He's glad I talked him into the C6.
As much as I love my C5, and do plan on keeping it forever, I also plan on getting a C6 someday also and am very excited about that idea. Sure, the C6 might not be as good looking as the C5, but most people will agree that they've made a ton of technical improvements on the C6. So from a purely driving standpoint the C6 is a fantastic car.

Here is my input on the matter.
If you have 35,000.00 to spend I would look at a new C6, A base model around here can be has for around 41,000, or look for a lo miles C6 2007 or 2008 in the price range you want to spend, I have driven them both and the C6 is more car for the money, It took a year or more for the looks of the C6 to grow on me and it did, If I was looking for a Vette with your price range it would without a doubt be a C6.
Just my 2 cents.

This thread is about 5 months old. The OP hasn't posted to it or on the board as a whole since he started it. I see this thread getting locked by the mods.....

Which ever car you do decide on make sure the little bugs have been addressed. Try to avoid a stealership as they do not know crap about a car. Buying from a forum member is your best bet. The C5 bugs are the oil pressure sensor, the HVAC display going out, headlight motor gears. I'm sure there are a few others I have not experienced yet.
If I could a afford a C6 I'd be driving one. The C5 is no slouch by any means though. I love my car, end of story.
No. I believe there is a forum rule about reviving threads more than 45 days old. Besides, what's the point of giving advice to the OP when he A. has only one post (the one that started the thread)
and
B. hasn't revisited this thread since he posted it in March.

Isn't it the police that inforce the rules?
Just funnin with you.
A lot of members don't see the posted date, I am one of those, I see a question and I answer.
I like both. I have a C5 coupe and a C6Z06. If I had to chose between the two I would naturally take the C6Z06. As it is now I can't make myself get rid of the C5 yet, it makes a good daily and/or bad weather car anyway. The C6Z06 out performs the C5 in everyway and I think it looks much better but that's a subjective thing that depends on the individual. The C5 has never been on the track but goes to the store, use to go to work until I retired, etc. everyday and the C6Z06 has been on the track many times and gets the job done in that respect. Both C5 and C6Z06 have a place in my garage.
It's an emotional thing. For $35K, low mileage C6s are available as are late C5s. Though some prefer the interior, I have no complaints with my C5 -- except the C6's dual cup holders would be nice. I prefer the C5 styling, and don't care for the kit car look of the C6 front end -- and the C5 coupe has a bit more luggage room. If your total amount available is $35K, a late C5 would fit your price target taking into consideration taxes and fees. An early low mileage C6 might have some warranty left. Whatever the choice, welcome to the pleasures of Corvette ownership -- and this forum as a "owner."

I doubt the OP got the message. He hasn't been back to this thread since he started it in March (his only post by the way)
If you aren't looking for C5 Z06s, then step up to the 08 C6 with the LS3 at minimum.
I agree if car is going to be used on the track, otherwise it really don't matter. On the street it just becomes a bragging point, I got more horsepower than you do, etc. You can't use it all on the street anyway at least not leagally or safely. So, definitley go for horsepower it you plan on tracking the car.
