I bet that is getting to be the norm with premium gas to hit $4 this year they need to get ahead of the curve, but then my Vette never goes to the stealership
1. replacing all four F45 shocks with standard Bilsteins (3 hours labor)
2. inserting F45 simulator plugs in the original F45 plugs, to fool system into believing it still has F45 shocks. (half an hour labor)
I would not have gone to the stealership if I had the option,
High, Compared to what? I own a retail store and am familliar with the costs of doing business. I honestly don't know how they do it for as cheap as $99.00. Tech hourly pay, service writer, mainenance guy and equipment, insurance, taxes, wear on major equipment (lifts compressors etc), rent/mortgage, advertising,....
I an not in the business, but a shop that gives you a "cheap" hourly charge is either not paying some of these hefth bills, or is "padding" the bill in another fashion. No matter how you cut it someone has to pay these expenses in some way.

1/2 hour to plug in the simulators?
They are already changing the shocks, it will only take them a few seconds to plug in the simulators during the process.

As was mentioned there are other costs besides the tech. You can still shop around though, never hurts. $100 is my local dealer's rate, we also have a great shop that charges $80.

The OP's options are to shop around for a better price, or do the work hisself.
I mostly try and do the work myself but this was beyond my ability, my local shop guys ($70/hour) did not want to touch the F45 shocks so the stealership was my last option. Lesson learnt

You could drive 200 miles south and they would charge $82/hour, I would try to find a new best C5 friend in the area and take over refreshments and those mad puter skillz
