I have a cam package in my 03 zo6. Tuner said my stock injectors are at their limit. I am getting SVO #30 injectors put in. Do I need to retune it? My tuner says yes. I was thinking of waiting a few months before doing it, is this ok?
Thanks Brian
yes, you will need a retune if you upgrade your injectors.
the car might still run alright with larger injectors if the LTFT can compensate for the reduced duty cycle (I think there is only a 20% range of adjustment the fuel trims can work with, -10% thru +10%) but you;re not going to be optimal.
Wow, that's surprising. I've had a couple really notable tuners tell me the stock injectors are usually good b/t 450-500 rwhp. But every car and setup is different.
Edit: Oh, I see you're running lower gears. Stock gearing would probably show up as higher dyno #'s. I've always heard to retune after installing larger injectors, but I also heard that when I upgraded to my 90mm intake setup and I'm currently putting that off

Reason: Take gearing into account.
You're doing the right thing by going with the SVO 30's, don't let anyone tell you different, I don't even have a cam in my car yet and did this for my future mods. I was getting a new tune anyway at the time so I really couldn't answer your question, but I would guess that it would be a good idea......especially if you can get a retune for a reasonable amount.
Yup, it definitely needs tuned to be accurate.. make sure they are scaled correctly.
And, all the tuners that claim stock injectors go 450-500 rwhp must be jacking with the flow rates a ton i'm assuming because my car with a catback and Vararam is a 80% duty cycle on stock injectors with a 13.0:1 A/F.. at maybe 360-370 rwhp.
If it helps ya, i just installed 38# inj in mine, no tune yet. When started cold it searches for idle, as well as having an inherent miss when the throttle is blipped. Re-tune IS needed.

You need to retune as soon as you put them it, like at the dyno! I could barely start my car after I put mine in to pull it onto the dyno. At 425whp my duty cycle went from 95%(stock) to 76% with the SVO 30#. They are and excellent choice for your car.
Good move going with the 30# SVO's, sure the stockers are good for 450ish+ but running the ragged edge of something will make it fail sooner, running an injector at such a high duty cycle increases the risk of running it static as well. As the others said: You will definately need a retune.
From: Wylie TX --> Less is More, except under the hood !
Yes I would get a re-tune.
I had 447rwhp/427rwtq with my stock injectors and I was running high 90's duty cycle. I got SVO 30's and LG's installed. Managed to squeeze a bit more out of it and got 448rwhp/432rwtq. I feel safer now too.
How much does a set of 30# injectors cost, roughly?
If you shop around on that auction site, you can usually find them new for under $250,,,,, I have seen lots of low-mile used ones on sale here and on LS1tech for $200 or less. I got mine for $220 shipped new, but that was over 3 years ago.
