I just read over numerous threads regarding windshield replacement because I just found a big crack in mine. I've avoided this for a long time, having already replaired several 'stars' on my window, but this time I didn't see the damage quick enough to repair it.
Anyway, dozens of threads seem to indicate it will be very high, and a local quote had my in the $1000 range.
I ran into a couple of threads saying that insurance might pay for it, and I'm glad, because i wouldn't have thought of that on my own, and sure enough, they do cover it, and I will only be out $250 for the deductable.

Just thought I might share that.
In FLA state law is windshield is 100% covered with full coverage insurance --costs us 0 to replace our windshield when a rock goes thru it no deductible Guess there is a few benefits to living in the land of idiots-immigrants & geriatrics
I had a rock hit mine a couple months ago. New windshield cost me $250. Insurance paid the rest. Problem I had was getting them to put it in right and use a windshield for HUD. Fist one was installed wrong and second was not an HUD and the display was blurry.
