Dang Rickman, I wish I could get 25K on a set of tires! I do good to get 8 months!

To the OP, have you looked at the sticky at the top of the C5 forum? There's your list of common failures along with how to fix them and the cost involved. That should throughly answer your question. Good to see you make the right decision if its not the time. Nothing like having your dream car repo'ed.

Headlight replacement from dealer - $450+ a piece
Trunk latch doesn't always work - Haven't fixed it yet
Climate control LED burn out - $500+ if you want it from the dealer, $60 from a guy to replace LED
Front brakes squeal constantly - No fix, according to dealer/brake shop

I haven't even had to replace any tires yet.
Let me help you out Matt.

Headlights: You can find both sides in the for sell section for the price you've been quoted for one (and by the way, that's a used price they are quoting you, the new ones are no less than $700 a piece).

Trunk Latch: That's probably nothing more than a contact cleaning situation or a harness issue. Still a easy fix once you locate the problem. Search the forum for a how too. You're definitely not the first to have this issue.

Climate Control LED: Another relatively easy DIY. Instructions are posted in detail throughout the forum.

Squeaky Brakes: That's what happens when you let the dealer put those cheap azz breaks on your car. They got me too when I first got mine. Never again. Let me suggest a brand for you: Wagner. Squeak free for almost 2 years on mine.

Lastly, stay away from the stealerships!

Tires will be your biggest burden compared to a normal car.
I can get 60K tires for my truck but you won't find high mileage tires for the vette.

Default thanks to the forum for being kind

My wife said today she see a vette in my future as well, but as I said not the right time. I do have nice other rides. 08 Jeep JK unlimiteed 4x4 jeep thats the wifes, I have a f350 CREW CAD, 4X4 ONE TON DSINGLE REAR WHEEL DRIVE HARLEY DAVIDSON EDITION. 2 harleys and one vintage 1950 ford F1. So cake ice cream and cookies in the not to distant future. So I think I can make do until its right. I will keep on popping up on here and try to stay current I might not have to wait until 2013 might be able to make it happen in 2010. Just for everyones info, I am 6 feet tall and found the cabin of the 2005 C6 to small I sat in a C5 and it was a great fit. I may still wind up going after a 2004 in a couple years. Only real reason is simply fit. Any tall folks in C6's. Probably should go to a C6 forum to ask that Q. Take care like I said will stay current with this, this dog is not done hunting. Vette in the future.

Its a hard thing to do. The 60th will be worth waiting for or - Who knows - you just might find a cheap old used 2009 ZR1 for sale by that time.

I get upset when people say vettes are expensive to fix no theyre not. If u go to the dealership everything will b expensive from parts to labor. So basically no vettes are not high maintenence cars in any way shape or form in my opinion.

Default things changed

I got to work monday looked on the net, it was still listed for sale, called the dealer they still had it and had not sold it, and no one was looking at it.

So now I am the proud owner of a 2004 commemorative edition coupe. I absolutely loved drinving it home last night.

Will post some pictures once I get it washed it is currently outside under a tree, no room in the garage. Will be selling a motorcycle, and possibly my hot rod. will wait and see.

Once there is room in the garage it will be stored inside as all vettes should be.

Pics soon.

Hi talon46 -

Well - congrats and well done!

I sold my beloved (and sometimes hated) 61 Duo-Glide and my 99 FXST when I bought my 02 Z06.

I have never regretted that decision.

best regards -

I have owned sports cars in the past, they are much much fun. Its time to own the king of american sports cars. Wish me luck, I will be investing in the GMPP major repair warranty so that should help. My wife is calling this a mid life crisis, was reading what age. I will be 41 in april. I own two harleys and love riding them. But am looking forward to the drive each day in the vette its 25 miles one way to work. I do not think it will get much better then that. Its a GM pre owned certified vehicle. Has 23.5 k miles on it. Lemans blue with the stripes. dual tops, no mods. SO I can make the changes as I see fit. I respect and appreciate candid advice.

It has brand new run flats on it.

Pics will be posted saturday sometime plan to take the old lady to the drive in and watch bucket list, and some other movie take the vette and enjoy.

James
Wow this sounds verry familiar. I am 41 just bought a c5, I have two harleys, and my wife also said it'd mid life crisis. I bought a 2000 mag red coupe though. I just got it in feb and it has been sitting in garage due to weather here. I too questioned my purchase after I made deal and before i picked it up but now that i have it I'm happy. And You will be also. Problem I have now is with the vette and my limited free time I don't see myself riding the harleys much. I might sell my 02 Fatboy. Good luck hope you enjoy.

When I had runflats on mine, I was seeing around 50-60k miles on the fronts and around 80k on the rears. When I changed to other tires, the miles came down. I just changed out the GY D-3's with another set due to cupping. The tires were only about half worn at 33K miles on them but the cupping caused them to make a lot of noise that they didn't have before. New D-3s on it now and they are silent once again. Yes, an alignment was done too.

Default weather is bad here will be driving home in the rain

Well,

no pics until the weather clears up and I can wash it. I have been sitting here now for two days thinking about which toy I will give up in order to fully enjoy the vette. I drove today to work for the first time man oh man was it nice.

Once I get it washed and cleaned up, its spring pollen, and now with the storms outside want pics to worthwhile and not oh man nice vette but wash it already.

I will need some help I tried to pull codes but could not quite get the button pushing routine down, there are no warning lights, and I did to the options and fule button but where am I suppose to be looking for the codes, in the heads up display or in the speedo area.??

thanks will be on here much more often.

My 1994 I had for 3 years needed a water pump after 10 years (sold her with 81K).

My 2001 I've had for 2 years has needed absolutely nothing after ~ 52K.

Nothing out of the ordinary for regular maintenance.

Congratulations! Good choice!

Check for shock stuffers (shipping blocks) on the shocks if it has F55 magnetic suspension. The factory stopped putting them in sometime late in 2003 because dealers kept leaving them installed despite a flyer left in the seat showing how to remove them. Push up the front & rear shock boots and look for a yellow or white ribbon. I've seen cases of only the rears removed, or the stuffer still in just one shock, so check them all when you can get under it. It sure rides better with them out.

James, James, James.......you gave in to weakness and temptation!!
Good, now you are like the rest of us. I hope you enjoy your new Corvette. If you own Harleys, you are already familiar with pesky issues coming up. If you have any problems, do a search here and you will find the answers. My hats off to you!! Thanks for your service to our country!!!!

PS-codes will display in the screen where the mileage displays. Try it again, you'll get the hang of it.

Hi James -

The codes display in the Drivers Information Center (DIC) - that is the area that scrolls the word Corvette when you turn on the key....

Congratulations! Probably everyone on this forum has felt the same way, driving that new baby home. Just keep up with the basic maintenance and keep it on four tires around the corners. I've put 115,000 miles on mine and it still looks and runs like new!
