Sorry to hear about leaks. I think you're on the right path - check window alignment, keep searching forums. You're not alone, there should be many posts about leaks.
[QUOTE=talon46;1564538959]Tommorrow I go get my 2004 commemorative edtion vette coupe. I was having second thoughts tonight. Its not about affordabiolity, I just do not want a second car that I will love to drive but only after I work on it. I am gonna take the risk, and hope for much happiness. I have owned sports cars in the past, they are much much fun. Its time to own the king of american sports cars. Wish me luck, I will be investing in the GMPP major repair warranty so that should help. My wife is calling this a mid life crisis, was reading what age. I will be 41 in april. I own two harleys and love riding them. But am looking forward to the drive each day in the vette its 25 miles one way to work. I do not think it will get much better then that. Its a GM pre owned certified vehicle. Has 23.5 k miles on it. Lemans blue with the stripes. dual tops, no mods. SO I can make the changes as I see fit. I respect and appreciate candid advice.
It has brand new run flats on it.
Pics will be posted saturday sometime plan to take the old lady to the drive in and watch bucket list, and some other movie take the vette and enjoy.
I have had my 04a4 Lemans vert for three years now and only thing I have had to do(not counting mods) was to have the dealer replace a side plate on diff-sand casting hole- and put in a new battery. Absolutely zip on maintenance for anything else.
I drove my vette today, and it seems that my drive way is too steep, it drags the front air damn, and has or occasionally hits th metal brackets up front, how important are the brackets, probably pertty just want to decide if I am going to park on the street neighbor hood is safe. Not to much traffic athat is until I can modify my driveway to reduce the steep ness. My old truck drags too, but not worried about that. Weekend project list just got longer and reorganized. Drive way is next.
I would say NO. It's a Chevy, not a Ferrari. Most of the night mares you read/hear about are brought on by the owner. Once you start with high horsepower Mods things are going to brake, if you race, 1/4 mile it, things are going to brake.
These are NOT old solid lifter engines that need constant valve adjustments, no points to re-set, no timing chains that need regular replacement, the plugs can stay in forever if you want.

Love driving my vette
The plastic air dam is designed to fold back, its actually spring loaded and sill take minor abuse - or you can bend it back into place.
The metal brackets you mention are probably the radiator supports and are very important that you not bend these up. I've scraped these too, but installed a wheel - similar to whats on the back of some motor homes to keep from scraping. Look at this post - http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...t=corvette+tax for the wheels. I got mine from A&A, another forum vendor here.
You might wanna put some boards at the bottom of the driveway for now. I don't like the idea of the Vette left on the street!
What was the line from that song "Smooth Operator"....."moves in space with minimum waste - maximum joy." That's the C5!
Don't worry about the steep driveway - you'll learn to approach all significant bumps and dips at an angle. Besides, the air dams are relatively cheap and easy to replace. Just don't lower the darned thing!
I've been having to do some fiddling and diddling with the C5 I've had for 5 weeks now. Little things that could be considered maintenance and most of these things were from the great write-ups that Bill Curlee has done and stickey'ed to the tops of each of these forums/sub-forums, they have included;
Clearing the stuff/crap that accumulates/has accumulated inside the "udders". I found all manner of crud/dried crud/crumbly-dried up dusty crud and am glad I got it all out so that no water could/would/will back up into the car, that was easy.
I bought my car used and am the 3rd owner so I pulled the new battery the dealer put in and sanded off some green corrosion that was on the negative battery cable lug and dielectric greased both of those lugs and the battery too. Removed the battery and re-installed the long snorkel that is behind the battery as it was not even inserted into the box it was supposed to be into, the car was used so who knows how or why the snorkel-long tube was out, I put it back in.
I went and undid all the ground points I could, 3 in the engine bay and one behind a rear wheel and cleaned them, dielectric greased them and reinstalled them so so far there have been no more issues as I had a CEL and the ABS/TC/AHandling lights go off twice, nothing since I tinkered with the grounds and the battery terminals.
I have a passenger door lock that won't lock with the FOB or the door lock button, it will unlock but not lock. I have read up on it but it is some tinkering to remedy it and for now, either reaching over or reminding my passenger/the wife to lock the door is a cheap solution for now.
When one goes on the sticky and reads the list of "Things to look out for", there are a TON of things that can and have gone wrong/have annoyed us over time and I sure don't like it at all but am glad that at least we have this resource/the forum so that if something does go on, we can either address it ourselves or are armed with some knowledge so that if we do need to pay to have something remedied, we are not spending more than we might need to.
As far as maintenance intervals, they are just like many other cars and in some cases, like our oil changes, we can go longer than other engines because our motors are so good. I'm in the process of changing all my fluids and doing every maintenance item I can do because the car is new to me and will be my DD and I want to make sure that everything starts from square 1 so I don't wear anything out sooner than it needs to be.
My 2004 Corvette has been my least expensive car to own. It's not a DD, but it's not a garage queen either. I have owned it since August 2004 and my total maintenance costs have been under $500.00. Mostly oil changes.

Take your driveway at an angle, in & out = no drag.
Well put. That about sums it up for me and with the help from the Forum many of the routine fixes are DIY. That said, if it needs to go to the dealer to fix a problem you could be looking at some large $$ sums so you should be prepared for that risk.
2001 Coupe, I have had it two years, 6,000 miles.
NO PROBLEMS which cost money. Sensor phantoms, ground, easy fixes.
Tires? $100 each, Cooper Zeons, you don't NEED $350 tires.
I have changed oil twice, once when I bought it and 5,000 miles, differencial fluid @ 50,000 miles. $30. Time for plugs have not done it yet.
Is this what you want to hear?:
The C5 Corvette is the lowest-cost-to-maintain-and-own SUPERCAR on the PLANET.
The engine and transmission is basically the same one in Silverado pick-ups. (yes, I know it's aluminum, blah, blah, blah). It's an LS1, period. Cheap to own and fix barring catrostrophic failier. It's a domestic GM product with lots of sensors and electronics that will do 175mph.
If you want to compare it to a Civic and expect that maintenance and ownership cost, you better buy the Civic. If you compare it to a Ferarri, oh, what a steal the C5 is in every aspect of cost of ownership!

Talk to the folks on the Forum who also own Porsche, Ferrari, Lambo's and other exotic hardware. Yes, Corvette's cost more for parts, repair, mods compaired to the average car. It's called the "Corvette Tax". But compaired to other sports cars..........
You guys are Hilarious!!! This thread is OVER a year old!! Someone posted and brought it back to the top. Its kind of funny to read what some people wrote about it today!
