A while back there were instructions for DIY blackout tinting of tail light lens. This was a spray on tinting, not an adhered window tint. A search came up with everything but what I was looking for. I've also heard there was a vendor who did this, but need a link.
The product is called VHT nightshades, and can be ordered from many places online. I tinted my tailights with it, and they turned out great! I first sanded the tailights with 800 grit, then I cleaned them with running alcohol. I then sprayed two light layers of vht nightshades on the lights, and wet sanded the tailights with 2000 grit. I then did two more light coats and wetsanded again. I did one more final light coat and wetsanded again. I then put a clearcoat over it, and then wetsanded it again. I then painted one more final clearcoat over them and let them dry.
The both do great jobs, I planning on getting LEDs and getting them tinted. I have no first hand experience with either of these vendors but I hear alot of good things about both.
You can also pick up some window tint made by Pactra RC294 I believe. It is made for model cars. You can pick it up at almost any hobby store. I just finished mine last weekend. 2 coats of tint and 5 coats of clear.
