I recently purchased a 2000 Pewter Convert. The Rear Bumper and Front License Plate has the Corvette Letters painted Red...I would like them removed. Was this done by one of the previous owners or Was this done by the factory?...regardless...How can the red be removed, I would prefer to have the lettering nonpainted...Thanks a Million for your advice. I am unable to post a pic, but if you pm me your email addy, I would be able to email you a pic...Thanks Again.
Thanks for the prompt response...I just went into my garage and although they are not peel offs, the goof off did take off some of the red on my test spot...so looks like I am going to grab a box of qtips and start removing....(looks llike the goof off is safe to the factory paint as well)..Thanks alot for your advice, this forum is the greatest, many years ago i had a 85 coupe, and finally, I bought another vette...the 2000 convert this past week...Amen to Vettes...
If the goof off doesn't take it all off, there are some stick on letters sold by vendors. Probably cheaper than a repaint of the area.
Welcome to the Forum and to the Vette brotherhood.
Congrats on the new vert. The right color too.
You might want to consider putting Stainless Steel letters front and back. They really stand out nice on pewter. There was a thread last week about SS letters on pewter. Search and look through that to get an idea.
That thread was mine, click on my screen name ,you can click on the threads started by me,,there are several pictures of stainless, black and red letters. Just curious ,did they just paint the letter recesses or did they paint over stick on letters??

I don't get the paint or the Stainless letters. Are people CONFUSED about what they drive and need to see in blaring at them when they walk up to their cars or to tell the kid in the Civic behind them that they're following a CORVETTE??

I think it's a personal preference thing,,if every body liked the same thing it would be kinda boring. Some things I've seen I think look awful some think is cool and visa versa.I've been considering stainless for the back of my pewter FRC,straight back view that's a large plain expanse of pewter.I've added corsa touring's with the quad pro tips and I am thinking stainless letters would balance the look.Haven't made my mind up yet. Some folks just like something a little different...To each their own.
I just got my letters in the mail today. I decided to go with the black 3D letter kit on my Torch Red '02. I am VERY happy with the way the rear ones turned out as they stick out about 1/4 of an inch and look great. The the front pieces, not so much. They are waaaay thinner and don't stick out at all. I wouldn't say that they are 3D at all. They also are cut from very thin white acrylic and have a layer of black over the top of them, so you can see the outine in white. Definately not the look I was going for and look nothing like the picture on the website. I actually didn't put these on my car because they looked so bad when I just held them up. I'm gonna return them to zip-corvette.com and just buy the vinyl stickers for the front. No sense in spending $19.99 when I can get the stickers for $6.99 and they will look way better.

Unless you have them filled, then its blaringly obvious anyway, so why not try to make them a little more stylish and match whatever theme you have?

you're confusing the people who fill in the rear letters with the people who have the "corvette" banner across their windshield.

would prefer smooth, but until performance work is complete, body work takes a back seat, so $20 makes the area look a little better until i get what I really want.
Yes, a little bit of paint thinner will take that paint off. Just be sure to clean and wax well afterward.
While I like the discreet look of the original paint with the recessed letters, I'm also tempted to go with the stainless inserts. I've seen the mirrored letters and they are terrible....If they aren't mounted all at the same EXACT angle, it looks like ****.
Oh...by the way...Great color Pewter....I love mine.
Perhaps just a slightly darker silver/grey painted letters would look cool. Subtle....nice!
Congrats on owning a fantastic car......I'm so lovin' mine!

Definitely a preference thing
I like the SS Inserts and I think it finishes the rear nicely
