Default Found the problem with engine light...

Yep. I wondered why it wasn't coming on when I raised the hood. I looked at it tonight and figured it out. (It wasn't hard.) It's been unplugged. There is a wire that runs from the light to a socket, kind of like a USB but different. I thought about plugging it back in but decided not to. The socket and the plug are a beautiful shade of green and very crusty looking. I just bought this car Saturday. This is the first thing I've found wrong with it. I bought the GMPP warranty, which, I think, covers electrical issues. Unfortunately, there's a $200 deductible on it. I'm wondering if the dealer will make it right. Any suggestions if he doesn't?

Thanks

Default No takers?

It can't be too hard to replace, or expensive, can it?

You could try the dealer but I'd try some electronics cleaner first. Its a couple of $$ from Radio Shack. Those connectors will probably clean up fine.

If not it would be easy to splice in a new connector. Try one of the Forum Parts Dealers for a price if you want to go that way.

Owners often unplug that light if they work on the car.

Don't they have like a 30 day guarantee besides your GMPP?

I was thinking the same thing. They should fix this one for free. I know it won't cost them more then a few bucks for the new connector. If they want to charge you $50 or so, I would do it myself. Not very hard to change out a connector and some wire if needed. Good luck.

I know its new to you and you don't want to mess up, but its only a matter of time before we here on CF have you installing headers and a new exhaust system while 36" up on jack stands in your drive way!!

A different piece of advice.
Go back and see what the extra cost is to change to a 0 deductible on the GMPP. $200 is quite high and will keep you from bringing it in to get things fixed, and isn't that the idea of having the warranty?
How many trips @ $200/trip will it take to recoup the difference?
I'm not saying this due to your light issue, just in general.

I bought mine with a $100 extended warranty.

Take your car back and make them fix it for free.

I just bought my car on 2-25-08 and 18 days later it went in for a new throw out bearing/clutch slave and rebuilding the Manual Transmission due to severe issues with putting it in Reverse, they are doing all the work for free.

A little harness compared to what my Dealer is eating is nothing!

shoot both sides with CRC Contact cleaner then start plugging and unplugging repeatedly with an occasional shot of cleaner. might take a dozen tries

Default Great advice...

You guys are great. Thanks for all the good advice. I don't know about being under it at 36" on jack stands, but you never know.

I talked to the dealer. They're going to fix it. Good idea about changing the deductible, too. I'll check with them on that.

Thanks again.
