I've been watching for a nice compact jack for some time now. My floor jack is too big to fit under my car and requires pucks even if I could use it. I also want one that is small enough to carry in my emergency kit should the need arise since I am not using run-flats anymore.
I found this little gem at the local junkyard for $10. At Its lowest, it is only 2.75 inches. Its out of an early 90's mid size Olds, but any mid size GM from that era should be the same. I tried it this morning, and it does not require pucks because it easily clears all of the bodywork. The built in wrench on the handle even fits my lug nuts.
If any of you are looking for a jack, this is a good one.
I think I remember that jack, it has a groove in it to fit over the flange between the floorpan and rocker. That's what kept the jack from slipping out.
I'd be concerned about that flat lifting area slipping on the smooth metal lifting area on the car though. I'd still be tempted to use a puck or something so the jack wasn't as liable to slipping/kicking out.
I recently needed help at work due to an unexpected flat tire. My daughter and son-in-law responded with their '07 Ford Taurus scissor jack and lug nut wrench. Very impressive kit. Low profile, 19mm, nice secure carrying case. I'll be buying one for my car.
If you expect to use this to change a non-runflat tire, try letting the air out of a tire and then try to get jack under the car. You will lose 2 inches, clearance is about 2 inches. Good luck.
That little jack in the OP's post looks very similar to an F-Body jack. I've used one of those every time I've put a C5 in the air because of how easily it gets under there.

Thanks for the input.
I just double checked the clearance and all is good. My non-lowered Vette has 5.5" of clearance where the jacking points are and with a flat I will have about 3". That gives me a liitle to spare. Guess I won't lower the Vette in the future.
