Default Convertible Wind Noise

I have a 2000 convetible and when the top and windows are up on the highway the car is quite noisy due to the wind. I believe that this is due to the wind coming in between the window and convertible top since it is very difficult to have a perfect flush fit. I was wondering if anyone else has this problems or if I should try and get my window and top recalibrated.

I just bought a 2001 Vert, and the wind noise seems minimal to me. In fact, it is the quietest Vette I have ridden in. But, it has been sound deadened with the Crazy Cowboy's kit.

Default Wind Noise

I have very little wind noise in my 99 vert (less than my Suburban). I do hear road (tire) noise. I suspect you may need a window adjustment.

Check the condition of the door seals on the top. There are articles on adjusting the top to fix gaps where the seal meets (middle of door) and on how to adjust the window tip-in and so on. My 2002 is low mileage, but quiet as they come. Quieter than my 1999 coupe was, in fact. It did have a bit of air leakage, but I took a plastic stick and reseated the seals where they weren't exactly engaged in their retaining grooves, and that was it.

There is a trick to adjusting the top itself. There's a stop that can be set to open a gap at the center of the window, or close it. You need to be careful not to create a bind (one side closes tighter than the other, etc.), but this is an alternative.

Good luck. It should be possible to get the car really quiet.

I have very little wind noise in my '01 vert. Now tire noise is an altogether different story.

A vert can never be as quiet as a hardtop...I had a 67 Mustang vert and this vette vert is a lot more quiet then the stang was.

This is correct. Well almost.

First, check the seals first to see if they need replacing. If they need replacing then take them off and replace with new ones and this will most likely fix your problem. If they do not, then bend the "L" shaped aluminum that holds the weather stripping so that it "fills the gap" if you will. You'll see what I mean when you look under the weather stripping.

Secondly, if you go with the plastic stick method to get the glass to snug tight against the weather stripping, instead, use double stick tape. It works....trust me. (This comes straight out of the GM maintenance book that the dealer mechanic would use to fix the problem)

Thirdly, chances are it is not the top that needs adjusting. It's possible but unlikely. Oh, and whatever you do, do not reset the door jam. I've seen some suggest this and I wouldn't recommend it.

Lastly, I also would not adjust the window tip unless the first two suggestions do not work. This advice comes from a guy who fixed mine who has 25 years of working on vettes from C1's to C6's

The top was improved for better sound control in 2001.

Do you still have the original run-flats on the car? If so, I'm guessing that you are mistaking excessive tire noise with wind noise.

That's because the top was changed from a 3-layer twill to a 5-layer twill if my memory corrects me.

I bent the weatherstrip like you, also I did the window tilt in with coating the gasket with dielectric grease and it stopped most of the noise for me

This is not likely, but an easy thing to check:
When I sound insulated my '01 Vert I covered up the hidden equalization (that's my term) vent inside the left side trunk area thinking it was an easy way for sound to invade the interior. Up to about 50 mph, no problem, but over that a steadily increasing wind whistle started up from the side windows. It got really loud over 70. I uncovered the vent and the noise completely went away. So just in case someone sealed the vent, open the trunk and check behind the carpet liner on the drivers side behind the gas cap. If memory serves, it's a plastic vent about 5x7 inches with a flap over it between the inner and outer body panels. It equalizes the pressure between the inside and outide of the car, I think.
If I'm wrong about the function, someone chime in...
So what i did was put a piece of open cell foam over it loosely hanging fom above to help reduce sound infiltration. Works great.
