Several months ago I became the second owner of an 04 vert. I had a GM vehicle build sheet run that shows the car was ordered with option code QF5 high polished aluminum wheels. I expected the wheels would have had the logoed center caps but they are plain generic plastic caps. Since the car also has Nitto non run flats I have begun to wonder if maybe the car lot I purchased this from made a tire and wheel swap for some reason.
The back side of the wheel is marked with GM and the following numbers:
GM
F083199
2AB
9593797
17 x 8.5 J58
090799 B
I'm wondering if anyone can confirm if these are the wheels that were ordered with the car and if they are why don't they have the logoed center caps? Are there aftermarket center caps that will match this wheel finish? I took this question to the dealer but they were no help.
Thanks for the quick reply and the link! I'd like to change out the center caps to ones with the logo. Any thoughts on attaching the decals to my current caps? Are the after market caps with logos simply a plain cap like mine with a decal on it or are they a higher quality logoed cap?

The ones I got a few years ago through Discount Tire has the logo painted on and looks great
They are a stock set of wheels that have been chromed. Did not come from the factory that way.
Thanks for solving the riddle. Can't figure out why the first buyer paid the premium for optional high polished aluminum wheels and then had them chromed. Maybe it was a dealer lot car and the dealer ordered the optional wheels.
But hey, they look pretty good but would look better I think if the center caps had the logo. So, I'm thinking about adding the adhesive decal logo to my plain caps as my caps are an exact match. Any bad experiences with the decal logos?
Could also have been the standard wheel. That's what I've got on my car. Painted and clear-coated over an alloy, they would be a better "donor" wheel for chroming. The high polish wheels were a $1695 option, and the standard ones were, well, standard.
Statistically, the standard wheel was rare. Something around 80% of the 2002 cars had the option for the high polish aluminum wheel.
I'm guessing West Coast Corvettes, Mid-America Motorworks, or any of a number of other vendors can set you right up with the center caps, as can America's Tire Company/Discount Tire Company. Tire Rack may have them, as well.
While I agree with the part about any chroming being done after the fact, how do you tell if that wheel is chromed or high polished?
A lot of people mistake the polished for chrome.
I put these on my chrome center caps about 4-5 years ago and they are still going strong. They are actual C5 emblems, and not the fake emblems (two checkered flags ) that come on the aftermarket center-caps.

The only frame of reference I have at this point is the 2004 sales brochure for the car. Looking at the different color photos of the standard wheel and the optional high polished aluminum wheel, the high polished wheel does not appear to be as "bright" as the wheels on the car. Maybe I'll come across a wheel expert along the way or see another set like these on another C5 and ask them. I actually have several questions about the car and wish I could contact the original owner to ask them. One of the drawbacks to adopting a used car.

They look good, thanks for the link and comments. My center caps are smooth like the ones on the right of the photo in the link. I actually think the decals look better on the caps in the left photo. Maybe I'll have to change the caps too.

All polished wheels from the OEM wheel suppliers are coated with acrylic clearcoat over the polished aluminum per the GM or Ford materials specification...in other words, this is an industry wide requirement to prevent corrosion of the raw alumimun. The chrome is easily distinguished by its mirror like finish. Anyone mistaking polished for chrome just hasn't seen enough wheels yet.
