All the body and paint work on this '58 was done by Maaco
Three years ago a fellow club member had all his restoration body and paint work done by a Maaco shop. Here is a picture of the car. It’s all about the quality of the personnel and not the name on the sign. Some are (a lot) better than others.

I had my daily driver work truck painted at MAACO a few ago and I did all the prep and pulled all the chrome. All they had to do was spray it. Did not look terrible but a year later the clear came off

All I can say is if this is what your fellow club member got from Maaco's "Signature" edition job (estimated @ $1,000) they should use his car in their commercials.

Never, Ever Take A Car, Particularly A Vette To Maaco. No Matter What They Tell You They Do To The Car The Bottom Line Is That They're Work Sucks.
The First Time We Tried Maaco What When Our Daughter Bought An 66 Vw Bus And Wanted To Get It Painted There. They Said They Would Totally Sand It, Prime It And Then Paint It.
They Didn't Do Any Of That. They Painted Right Over The Paint That Was Originally On The Bus. If Fact, They Didn't Even Clean The Wax Off The Old Paint.
In A Matter Of Months The New Paint Was Peeling Off In Large Sheets.
Several Friends Had The Same Experiences With Their Cars.
I had a sh!tty car i once brought to maaco, well they painted the car... and also the tires and inside the wheel wells. There is a reason why they only charge 299.00 for there ambasador paint job. Please don't bring the car there.
My sister-in-law took her firebird to them and it looked like they painted the car outside in the wind. I have never seen that much trash in a paint job. It was like a bad joke, I couldn't believe anyone would do that to a car.
Dont they use water colors, if so if it you didn't like it, it will wash right off. If not it will fade to a diferent color in a few months so maybe you will be happy with that color. Sounds like a win win to me.
Tell Your Buddy to change his plan instead of re -painting his vette ( Maaco Who??????????????? You must be Joking............
Just tell him to sale his vette and buy a boat then invite his girlfriend to go deep sea fishing. But Don't Do It On Christmas Eve
