Erratic starting issue... help.

Erratic starting issue... help.
My car is a 2001. The battery is two years old, according to the previous owner.
On three or four occasions in the past two weeks (since I bought he car) I will go out to start it. The radio comes on just fine. But the starter doesn't engage. I turn the key off, take it out, put it back in, and it starts right up.
One other minor issue, is that the memory seat position sometimes does, and sometimes doesn't, work. Sometimes the seat will move, but the engine doesn't start. Other times, it won't move. It may be that I need to reset it, but this starting issue is more important right now.
Any advice?

Have you tried another key or cleaning the resistor on the side of your ignition key? Use alcohol and a que tip.

Ah, the pellet...
Thanks for the reply. I was wondering about that pellet, but I didn't know how to clean it. Thanks for the info on that. I'll give it a shot and see what happens next time.
