Default Stereo System Advice

Anyone have any good stereo install tips? At first I wanted to replace the factory stereo, but I keep reading you lose the front 8" speakers. So I thought I'd just keep the factory stereo, but then how do I get my sub hooked up without cutting into the wiring, and it'd be nice to have an aux input for my ipod, not so much into the FM transmitter trick. So I'm kind of back to wanting to put in an aftermarket DVD/CD player of some kind so I can easily install my subs, but I'd like to keep costs low and time short and use the exisiting speakers. The whole car is a rebuild, so I'm tring to keep things as inexpensive and short term as possiblle for now.

So is it true you lose your front speakers if you change the factory stereo? Thanks!

Not at all. You have to integrate it into the bose amps or just replace them all. I opted to replace everything when doing my stereo. Did 8" mids with 1" tweets up front and 12" sub in the rear. Now I want speed so the stereo is out!!!

You can do any combo you want.

You can keep the stock head and speakers and add a sub, with a PAC adapter.

You can change the speakers and keep the head unit, with a PAC adapter.

You can change the head unit and keep the stock speakers and add a sub, Yes you guessed it, with a PAC adpater.

The PAC or soundgate adapter require no cutting of the stock harnesses. Just a remote wire tap in, if you add an amp.

Go over to the audio section and look at the FAQs at the top.
