Sorry for the blurry images... when I took the second picture the display on the camera looked like it had too much "bloom", so I used a drop light and turned off the flash for the rest (as you can see, it would have be OK).
This change did make a noticeable difference in effort.
It's almost there, just need to apply the anti-venom mod.
As George said, it did increase the throw some, but I'm fine with it.
I decided to keep the old piece in case I want to switch back for any special occasion - it doesn't take long to change them since they included that lower portion.
I thought they were just shipping the threaded rod part (it's held in with a set screw... but I haven't tried to take it out. Might be harder than it looks).
These are the first pics I've seen of this with a threaded shaft. Can I run my stock C5 **** on this? I've got the Vette Essentials **** that matches the rest of my interior and want to keep it
I love my Hurst, but the rattle is driving me insane.

Yes, but you might need to get a nut to lock it in place. No slot for the "key".
Got my shifter a week ago but was out of town so first thing yesterday morning I did the install. I was a little hesitant about pulling the console and radio bezel as it was my first time, but this was, by far, the easiest interior parts removal I've done, ever! I didnt' get a CD with instructions, rather I got printed C6 instructions, (incorrect for C5 Z). No worries, searching Corvette Forum provided perfect step by step instructions - not that there was any thing complicated about the install.
Swapped the shifter in 45 mins flat and was very surprised by the throw reduction. I expected 30% less throw than OEM... not 30% OF OEM... Shifter feels like it barely moves. It's going to take some getting used to and I may go the extended shaft route to make the 5/6 shifts more obvious. I love the 2-3, 3-4 shift. Amazing, precise and effortless.
My wife got in the car to drive it and says, "I can't get it into gear." I said, actually that's not true, it's just not obvious. She had no problems once she changed her expectation. One observation we both made was that neutral is difficult to feel becuase we're used to being able to easily swing the shifter to confirm it's there. Fact is that if you just pull it out of any gear gently it's in neutral. Pretty cool.
I've only noticed the slightest bit of noise during light throttle shifting.
Hey SJSZ06....i'm looking at your pics and I just noticed something.
What did you do with the factory rubber boot that is mounted to that plate with the 4 hex bolts? Did you cut it out? Because MGW's instructions say to just force it down and bolt up the 4 hex nuts. Looks like you cut yours or something?

Yep, I cut it at the first fold inward from the center. It tucks up under that last fold you can see on the MGW boot. I tried their instructions about just forcing it down, but didn't like the results. Guess I should have take a picture of that... never enough pictures!
The down side is that if I go back to the stock shifter (?!) I'd have to get another boot.

It's funny because I was thinking of doing the exact same thing. I had my shifter in and I was waiting for someone to come home with another car so I could go to the hardware store to get a set screw for my C6 ****, and happened upon your pics.
I think your way looks a lot cleaner, but I just used the force it over method George talks about....it's kinda ghetto though.
Anyways, mine is finally in. It's really f'n hard to get into Reverse or 6th, but that's just from shifting it around in my garage with the car running.

OK guys...Any updates on the shifter? Milan, did it loosen up any?
SJSZ06, how is the longer shaft for smoothness? Like it better than stock? BTW, my post on getting sales was referring to customer service
Thanks

After a couple of days driving with this shifter i LOVE it.
1st - 4th are PERFECT with this shifter. 5th and 6th require a little bit of effort. Reverse is a complete PITA to get too....I'm guessing most women couldn't do it.
To answer your question, it does feel "looser" but I'm guessing it's just me being used to it.
Another thing I should mention is that I have the C6 ****. The way George makes the shifter for the C5 z06 is if you have the thing for the C6 **** the handle is different in such a way that you have less of a mechanical advantage (thus making it harder to shift). This is probably a huge reason why mine is hard to get into reverse.
Also to clarify on the reverse issue. It's not hard to get it in the gear, it's just hard to physically push the shifter over far enough to the right to get it there.

The longer shaft makes the effort a bit less and the throw a bit longer, otherwise it's the same feel as the shorter shaft.
Also the side to side motion is a bit more so I can actually tell I've moved into that gate.
Much more precise than stock. I don't really find it smoother, just more precise.
Milan: You might want to try the weaker springs... reverse requires compressing that left side spring a bunch, and it's stout!
Left side because the springs are above the cross shaft - so when you move the lever to the right, you are working against the left spring.
My wife has no complaints about 5th or reverse. First took some getting used to for her, but she aclimated very quickly. She does acknowledge the gates are stiff, but the more she drives it the more she likes it. The major complaint is the vague feel when finding the gates. The throw is so short it provides little tactile feel. You're usually in the gate, but you just can't feel it.
I've ordered the extension to try and improve that.

See I have no complaints like that other than muscling it into reverse. After a couple days of driving it I always know what gear I'm in, as opposed to before with the stock shifter.
