Default What's Better - CAI Question

Hi, I wanted to know which would be better HP wise?
- Z06 air box, K&N air filter, cold air screens
- blackwing with no cold air screens

Thanks,
TonyP.

The former, IMHO. Although I wouldn't characterize either choice as a CAI.

Thanks for the information! any other opinions also, would the air screens help cold air (outside) get into the Z06 box?

Thanks,
TonyP.

Yes they would. Two things to bear in mind:

1. installing the screens are a major PITA

2. As with any "CAI" you open yourself up to hydrolock.

Ram Air = Vara, but you need to deal with issues like water if you are a daily driver, etc.

Bottom Feeder = Calaway Honker, you can drive in any and all water, snow, mud etc without issues (so as long as you arent into 14" of standing water)

Every other choice is because you are saving money, or don't know better.

The easiest way to bring cold air into the engine bay is to core some holes in your fog light panels and then install Z06 screens. If you do this, make sure you have an 02+ Z06 airbox, a Blackwing, or Halltech Stinger.

If you don't like the look of Z06 screens and their resultant diffusion of the fog light beams, You might also look into my CAI mod for Stingers and Blackwings. It takes a bit more effort, but the end result is twofold:

1. You won't lose power under slow and stop&go driving conditions (ecu will not have to retard timing because of higher-temp intake air)

2. Your engine bay electronics, battery, hoses, and belts will live a longer life. This cannot be said of many CAI systems, since they have no provision for allowing outside air to cool off the entire engine bay.
