The trunk lid on my 02 vert pops up with plenty of clearance to get my fingers under when activated from the dash, but does not pop up high enough to get my fingers under when activated by the key fob. Is it time for a new battery for the fob?
trunk should open the same no matter which button you use , both just trigger electric release , I have noticed on mine that when you shut the door after popping the trunk the air pressure in the car from shutting the door will pop the trunk up higher , I suggest putting on a " trunk popper" sold elsewhere on this forum , cheap and easy to install and works great all the time

The trunk popper is money well spent. Very easy fix for little $$$.

Gotta say, $ for $, the Trunk Popper is one the best mods I have bought for my vert!
I went through this about 3 years ago. I took the whole thing out of the trunk and had a look at the spring mechanism. What I found was that there was a binding in the mechanism. What happens because of this binding is that when released the finger that goes through the striker does not move out of the way quickly enough when released and the striker contacts it as it is moving upwards impeding the full lift of the trunk lid. So it's not really that the mechanism isn't strong enough in upward movement but that the latch doesn't get out of the way on the release. Easy fix though I sprayed some WD-40 in the latch on either side of the finger of the latch assembly that catches the striker that is on the trunk lid, It worked immediately. And so I went around to every hinge point also with the WD to ensure the best possible ease of motion. Also I cleaned the rubber gasket around the trunk which was also contributing to holding the lid down. About 6 months latter when the weather got cold it started to happen again so this time I used a Lithium spray grease and since then it has never happened again.
I hope that all made sense and I am sure it'll work for you.
Hi I agree with muttsc5 comment, what's happening is that when you are sitting in the car and use the dash mounted switch to open the trunk, then you get out of the car and close the door and walk to the trunk, the pressure from the door closing pushes the trunk open a bit more. when you use the fob you are usually outside of the car so therefore no door closing action to help out. Try this, use the fob while you are sitting in the car and then get out as usual and close the door, you will see the trunk open a bit more, or while outside the car use the fob to open the trunk and then open and close the door, and you will see the trunk open a bit more. It is not really your fob not acting properly, it is the door closing action that helps out. This action is usually with the windows closed and the roof up. With the windows down and or the roof down you may not get the pressure help from the closing door. To avoid any of this, the trunk popper really does work well, and is very inexpensive and easy to install.
Good Luck

I installed a trunk popper on my Z06 a couple of weeks ago. I can't believe something like it isn't installed at the factory. It's ridiculously simply yet completely solves the problem. I think it literally took me longer to get the trunk open with my finger than it did to install the trunk popper.
I made mine. Went to hardware store (True Value) and went to the area that has springs bought 2 for $4. You have to cut the spring in half and bend it for the screw. The hardware also has the plastic plug.
