Hey guys, I am new to the forum. I am in the market for a 2002 - 2004 Z06. I found a good example at a dealer not too far from me.
2002 Blk / Blk Red Z06
Just under 9,000 miles
One owner car, at dealer for one month, stored in heated garage
No mods
Clean, still looks new
What would you pay?
I just want to make sure I do not buy too much over true value.
From my research there is a huge disparity in the advertised prices of C5's. I have been watching this board, as well as various websites like autotrader.com & cars.com. There might be $10,000 difference between the list prices for the same cars. To me it seems that some folks are aware of the true value of these cars, and others are still struggling with the fact that their car may now be worth 50% of what they paid just a few years ago.
I fully agree that paying a little more for what you want and piece of mind is a good thing, I am just trying to do my best in understanding value.
Check NADA and KELLY BLUE BOOK for an idea of what the car might be worth depending on condition/mileage/options, etc. Those are the references for many dealerships. They might be a little high for the real world, but it's a starting point.
Asking what a car is worth on a car site won't affect the asking/selling price, anyway. Some people like to buy high mileage cars and some prefer to buy "garage queens".
In the end a car is only worth what the seller is willing to sell it for, and/or the buyer is willing to pay for it.
With miles that low I would think its going to be around 30k. I don't think I would pay over 30k..the market is just not good these days..plus intrest rates on an 02 is crap even with great credit. Id offer 28k and see what happens. most people would say offer 25k but I think a dealer might not call you back with an offer that low.
CG good number, I thought of the exact same figure. With the new Z06's starting to drop in price and it being an '02 and not an '01 right around the 30k mark is good. But I think they are starting to be dated to the point that over 30k is a no go and offer up 28k see what they come back with UNDER 30k.
Ok, here's what I just picked up 2 weeks ago. 2002 silver Z06, 1 owner, mint condition, just under 15,000 miles. Paid 24,000. I know I got an incredible deal. They are out there, if you keep lookin.

Dude, you raped the owner on that car! He must have been desperate for drugs or something....

Thanks,

When I was looking for mine i heard roomers here at the forum about old rich geezars that simply didnt care about money and when they got the new toy they just wanted to get rid of the old one. They didnt care if they lost $10000 on the whole deal.
So, I found one older dude in Ventura county that had an 03 Z06 with 11000 miles for sale posted for $34000 a year ago. The car was perfect and so was its history. It was the original owner, no stories or accidents with a clean title.
He just got the 07 Z06 so he just wanted to get rid of the C5Z.
I got it from him for $33000 with full documentation, all paperwork and a carcover.
The deals are out there, look around and you will find it.

I would have that car checked VERY carefully. I would be willing to bet there are some skeletons in the closet of that car's history.

Hopefully I am wrong.....
Along those lines, where would YOU draw the line? Cars bought and sold in previous Auctions? Multiple owners? Stored outside in less than favorable climates by dealers?
I am seeing a lot of 3-4 owner C5 Z's out there...
The seller listed it on Craigslist in Jan. for 24,000 to see if he would get any bites. Well, I bit. Knew it was a great deal and offered him what he wanted. He agreed & brought it out of storage 2 weeks ago. I had it taken to GM dealer where he bought it. They knew the car quite well. Carfax was totally clean. Car was only driven 2000 miles in last 3 years. He moved to a new city & had no room to keep car. The only concern I have is the original tires. I think I can deal with that for now. Flying down next week to bring her home.

Z060-0 is right, keep your eyes open and be patient, you'll be amazed what you can find. I got my EB 2002 with 26K miles on it for $27K. Immaculate, stock, one owner and I even got it from my local Chevy dealer.
Oh yeah, and I got it in July of 2005!
55K on the clock and still smiling every day!
From: Park City to SoCal - according to the map it's all down hill. No bad days in Indian Wells, California
Sept 07 - Got my 2002 Quicksilver Z06 with 9400 on the clock. $32.9 in Florida - 100% stock, new tires from a private owner who cared for the car like it was his first child
Ya car is in Connecticut. Was checked out buy Forum member & my son who lives in New haven. Car had front clip painted when it was brand new. Had a slight flaw in paint so dealer had it painted. Dealer backed this up. I had 2 months to investigate this Z. I am quite pleased with the purchase.
