I am thinking about polishing the muflers since they are so visable. Has anyone here done this? What did you use? Can you post a picture please. I started cleaning and found that 0000 steel wool make them look very shiney, and I like shiney. I would really like to futher this process.
I haven't done the car mufflers but I did the ti exhaust bracket on my motorcycle. I just used the normal fine compounds on my buffing wheel(green then white). It came out great. I guess you could do the mufflers, but it would be a lot of work.
Let’s see. Remove and start with 9 micron paper- day or two to complete. Then start with the green compound and work your way to white, and then finish with yellow at low speed. Don't forget to change out each wheel for contamination reasons. After that float with an electro-polisher, but go DC first to pull the excess compounds back out of the metal, passivation is a good thing. Then hit it with AC to knock off the mountain tops but be sure to flood the chemical in the process. Or if you don’t want medical grade, just use your favorite metal polish like Mothers and rub them out. By the way, great color!
Do NOT use steel wool, you will imbed tiny particles of steel in the metal, which will cause rust spots at the first sign of moisture. That goes for Ti, SS, Aluminum or anything.
