I have a new 08 Z06 purchased middle of Jan. 08. In cold weather the shift from 1st to 2nd is almost like the sycnro isn't working. In 3rd it grinds a little. The weather is now better in Indpls and I have noticed that when the car gets about 25 miles on it and warms up the transmission does not shift to bad. So after many miles and warmer tempertures the tramsmission shift improves. What do you vette guru's think? I have sent emails to Bowling Green Plant and I have had not one response. I have called the dealership and tried to talk on the phone with a transmission fellow and all I get is he is out in the shop working and bring your car in. When the weather was 20 degrees out and it sat for several weeks you can not imagine how bad it was at first. Since the weather lately is in the 60's it is much better but still not right for a $79,000 car. I now have 565 miles on the Z. Any ideas on this would be appreciated. Thanks Harry.
That sucks BIG TIME .... the 2008 Z06 gets the Tremec TR-6060 transmission, which is supposed to be an improvement over the T-56 used in the C5 Z06 and 2006-2007 C6 Z06 cars ....
Sad to hear it has problems ..... I'd get it into the dealer ASAP and get them working on this ... you want to document as early as possible that you are having problems and get them fixed. Grinding gears is not conducive to a "long life" for the gearbox.
While you're here on the C5 Z06 side I'm willing to test drive her for you...we'll work right through those tranny problems. She's still under factory warranty right?
Just kidding, post up on the C6 Z06 side and you'll get support. Good luck and nice car!
If you can, take it to Bill Estes in NW Indy, the guy there did my bad third gear syncro and the bad mainshaft bearings with no problem under warranty, got me a new truck to drive, and treated me like a king even though I hadn't bought this Z06 from them. Great people, Estes Chevrolet. They even sell perf exhaust installed there, thats cool.
I'm sure that you'll get more input over on the C6 section, but "stiff" transmissions like that are often the fault of the fluid. I don't know what the '08 tranny uses, but the T-56 uses automatic transmission fluid. There is always the chance that some bonehead at the factory filled it with differential gear oil rather than ATF. But sometimes just changing the fluid to another brand will make a difference in shifting. I know when I changed the ATF in my '03 to Red Line synthetic ATF, it shifted much more smoothly, especially when it was cold. Some people say the new Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is good also.
But before you go doing that, I'd talk to that guy that was recommended to you. He probably is familiar with this issue in the new cars.
Some of these replies are REALLY ... well .... dumb.
The factory did NOT put the wrong fluid in the tranny .....
"Talking" to someone about this (and I don't even understand why the OP wants to "talk" to someone) is STUPID. The car is BRAND NEW and under WARRANTY. What's a technician gonna say on the phone .... "Gee Mr customer, maybe you should drop the tranny and inspect the shift forks ??????" He's gonna say .... BRING THE CAR IN AND WE WILL FIX IT
What would be the point of TALKING to ANYONE ....
TAKE THE CAR IN AND GET IT FIXED .....
I'm starting to think the California attitude of "if we talk about the problem that will fix it" is spreading to the entire country .... JUST GO FIX IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, who set your **** on fire???
I guess there are language differences from coast to coast. When I suggested "talking" to the other Chevy dealer, I meant call him up, tell him the problem he's having, and arrange to take it in to get it fixed. Sorry I didn't spell it out for him. I, at least, gave him enough credit and common sense to figure that out for himself. Of course TALKING about a problem alone won't fix it. DUH!
Oh, and I'm sure that the GM plant has NEVER made a mistake in assembling any of their cars. That's why they are always so highly rated in the customer satisfaction and initial quality surveys from year to year.
