My last project!

Over the last 7 years, I have changed a lot of things on my car. I now have the car pretty much where I wanted it to be. The car was setup to be daily driven in stop and go traffic with A/C and full weight and would still have enough power to blow the doors off of 99% of the cars out on the roads. It is the ULTIMATE sleeper with enough hints to intimidate lots out there. You can drive cross country in this car without having to worry about anything. I know most modified C5 owners know what it means when you can say that. You actually have hit the milestone if you can claim the statement and back it up.
Enough about the performance of my stocker
Lets come to my last project and YES, I am done after this! You will still see me over C5 Gen from time to time, but I would mostly be hanging out in C6 Z06 Forums
I really want to enjoy driving my car this summer as I could not do that due to some non due "vacations" last year
I have always wanted to do a double din navigation and the reason for it was not bling factor. I am fortunate enough to drive some high end cars and SUVs as my daily drivers and in comparison my C5 always lacked in the stereo department.
I can do wrenching with the best of them but the only thing I cannot do (which I am not ashamed to admit) is, I don't have the skill required to modify a radio bezel to fit a double din like I wanted to. I thought I could count on a good friend of mine to help me with it but he had enough going on of his own so I dropped the idea of asking for his help.
I know there were options to obtain one already modified but nothing like I wanted. I wanted to retain my ashtray area because of my Alky controller and Wideband gauge. I could not move those anywhere.
I did a lot of research and made friends along the way. They helped me with ideas (some out right refused) but nothing appealed to me till I ran into this guy who, for now, I would call "Mystery helper with LOTS of skilllz!".
We talked over the phone and I sent him a detailed PM about what I wanted. He listened to me and said, "Nouman, I like your idea and I have never done something like this before but I am going to give it a try and I assure you, you will be happy with the results!"
My very close friend (btchn99) was not using her bezel and sent it off to this "Mystery helper with LOTS of skillz!"
When he recieved the bezel, it was cracked on the top and missing a tab. Thanks UPS for that
Here is what I found in my PM box this evening from my "Mystery helper with LOTS of skillz!"
Nouman,
Here are some teaser pics for you.
The bezel. Say good bye to the original look

Broken part of bezel needing repair

Test fit with trim ring to line up and see how things are shaping up

Good news is the broken tab wont matter bad news is both tabs had to go on the top so when done will need to see what we can to to secure the top

Everything starting to come back together with some beginning filler stage pics

Letting this set up for tonight to harden up and bond with plastic on the bezel. Tomorrow night sand and start another light coat to begin final shaping.
To Be Continued

It's good to see your dreams come to life
I will update this thread as I get more update from him. I will reveal his name when the project is finished.
Stay tuned
Nouman

And the kicker is that once it is done, it will appear that virtually nothing happened!! It will look like a stock thing to those that do not know better. I'm amazed by the craftsmen...craftspersons? on this forum, that do so much every day to improve their rides in so many ways.
Thanks so much for sharing the pics and explanations....on top of all the real work, you take the time and effort to educate us all.
thank you....

Greg its very involving but I have faith! I am pretty sure it will turn out awesome! I just got a PM from my guy again. He will have more pics for me tomorrow night!
BTW, thank you for the kind words. They mean a lot to me! I try to give this forum back as much as I can as I have learned a lot from here myself and have made awesome friends who I care about a lot
Check this thread again for more updates tomorrow

Well keep the pictures coming. You are part of what makes this place great!

It's amazing how you can join a forum and immediately have some totally awesome friends--some that end up being much closer to you than friends you live close to..But---it does happen and it has happened to me... ... and Wayne too.
We spend alot of our off time with quite a few of the friends we have made here and some of them are well worth traveling 1500 miles to visit
You, of course, know exactly who you are..I would not change my time here for anything--everyone is fantastic and more than willing to help at any time and that is not something that is easy to find.
Nomi---that is looking absolutely AWESOME...I can't wait to see the progress and it will be my pleasure to watch the final install and maybe even be able to lend a hand of my own..It's been a long time since I have worked on cars--you KNOW Wayne does all our work and it's about time I start helping those that help me and us---so along with helping with other things---I would love to help with this if I can do anything..Hibernation time is O V E R
This is gonna be a great project and an even better "planned" vacation
And one more thing... ... ...
10... ... HA!!!!!!

Oh yeah... ... We will talk about that C6 thing
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
