Hi, my tires are due on my 2000. I was thinking of replacing my rear with either 285/40/18 or 295/40/18 as it would be a little higher since my car very slightly rubs pulling down my driveway. Has anyone done this before? Thanks very much for all your help...
Hi Dan,
Haven't done it, but no reason why you could not. I wouldn't go more than the 285 tire myself if using the stock wheel. Remember you will increase your center of gravity, and allow more air underneath your car, which will change the aerodynamic properties slightly.
Is it just the front air dam that scrapes? If that is all, while it sounds bad, scraping that really doesn't hurt anything, and it is cheap and easy to replace. As an alternative, have you considered the little roller wheels that some vendors here sell? They attach to the radiator supports to minimize (or eliminate) scraping.
It's actually the mid of the bottom that scrapes, but as I mentioned it is very light and my tire thread is very low so I'm guessing with new tires, it should be fine. I remember on my C4 if one of the tires was missing about 10lbs of air, the car would scrape... The C5 is so much lower than the C4 I use to have....Thanks for your help!!!

Then you might want to consider the full length rail protectors (metal or plastic bars) that get attached to the underside of the chassis - again sold by various vendors here. Good luck, and I don't blame you for wanting to correct that (no matter how light the scraping is).
