Default TPS and FOB sensor replacement - Help

Cant program TPS or FOB. Tryed everything, new FOB from Cully, new Exide baterry, various magnets for TPS training....nothing. Has anyone replace the sensor for these? I know its somewhere inside trunk drivers side. Any info? part # or replacement procedure? Thanks for any help.

Default TPS and FOB training

The tire pressure sensors will need a strong magnet, such as one from a car speaker, placed next to the valve stem when training them from the DIC (driver information centre). The FOB gets a signal through radio waves, check the battery in it. A search on here will net you more information. Good luck,

Glen

first off, it can be tricky programing the TPS's if you don't have a strong enough magnet. You need to make sure you place the magnet at the base of the Valve Stem. You might have to move it around a bit. I assume your waitihg for the prompt on the dic.

On your fob, are you sure you have a new battery in the fob? And is it in the right way? I had a problem with mine that the side contact had moved on me when I put the new battery in.

Good luck.

The fact that you can't program either the fobs or tire pressure sensors suggest to me that the receiver may be at fault. The same receiver is used by both the fobs and TPSs. There is a company called SMC Performance that sells a complete replacement system, including receiver, 2 fobs and 4 TPS sensors for only $200. They claim it is a simple plug and play operation. If it works as claimed, you could probably sell your old fobs and TPS sensors for about that much. Might be worth looking into.

You may have a bad receiver. From what I have learned here on the forum, the FOB and the TPS all work through the same receiver. I think it is located behind the driver's seat by the rear speaker. Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Yea, they won't work on his 98. Those are the new style sensors, the older ones are slightly larger. Good catch!!!

The module that receives the signals from both the TPS and the fobs for the remote locking is called the Remote function actuation module (RFA) also known as the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR)

The way the system works is that when the power is on and the vehicle is moving the TPS send a radio signal to the RDCLR which turns that signal into location and pressure info and sends it to the BCM. If it doesn't see a signal after 8 seconds it sets a code. Obviously, the fob also sends a command and the RCDLR operates the door lock modules.

Firstly is it throwing any codes? You'd get different codes for which element is at fault. If an individual sensor was at fault you'd get XXX on that sensor. If the fobs were at fault the TPS should work and you say you haven't changed those. The only way both would be at fault is if you had the wrong TPSs and fobs (00 onwards spec) or the module was down.

If you're sure you've reprogramed the fobs and TPS correctly, logically, the fact that both are not working says to me that the RFA is the problem. It makes sense because each system has a different programming method. I could see one not programming but both seems unusual.

As you say, it sits in the rear passenger compartment on the drivers side. If you decide to try it, the replacement is easy:

Ignition off
Remove rear left compartment insulator
Pull on the retainer at the back side of the receiver
Pull out the receiver enough to see the connector
Disconnect the connector and remove

Connect the receiver
Line up the receiver with the slots in the retainer
Snap the receiver into place
Reinstall the insulator
Reprogram the fobs and TPS

As already suggested, make sure you get the correct RFA for your car. The older models has a different RFA which works at a different frequency. If the fobs, sensors and RFA are not matched the system wont work. I know Gene always asks for the VIN so I assume you have right parts.

Make sure you have the correct year fob and sensors. All C5's are not alike, mostly the sensors are the same up to 2000 i believe then different after that. and think there may be several different fob's....Would check that first if your old ones were working at all. If you didn't pay around $70 for the sensors they may be newer than 97 to 2000 year ones.

I used a little magnet that's on the end of a telescope tube like a pointer. Can get them at most auto stores. Check it to see it's a strong one....the use them to pick up bolts etc when you drop them around the engine etc.

Yes, the sensors are different than the originals. However, you are also replacing the receiver with one which is compatible with them. The ad states that the system is compatible with 1997-2000 models.
