Hello everyone - I'm posting cause I in the middle of purchasing my first vette a 99 but it is not passing smog. I was told the moniters have to reset and to drive it.
Now it has come apparent due to modifications that the pcm is not going into closed loop at all. Which I was told was needed inorder to get the moniters to pass. I'm a little lost at the moment on what to do.
I have the shop telling me I need to purchase a new pcm. Is this the way to go?? Or does anyone know a good tuner shop around San Jose, Ca? Any suggestions would be great.
The modifications that were done to the car that I know of for sure are: Batwing induction, MAF sensor, Lunati cam (no idea which one tho), Headers and exhaust. To quote my mechanic, there is no way it will pass smog right now but damn it's fast.

the only way a new PCM will help, is if the current one has failed.
Generally, with the mods you have listed... those alone would have not damaged the PCM; but re-tune (reprog) may be necessary.
This isn't to say your PCM isn't damaged and in need of replacement; and if it is - then you'll need a tuner to dial-in the new PCM in lieu of your mods.
I would agree with what you said. The problem that the shop is telling me is that it appears that the pcm was tuned and then locked into place. The shop has tried several times to re-tune but the pcm is not taking it.
Try calling Andy at A&A Corvettes. I think he works with a fellow named Charlie who does some good tuning too. I'm not sure (at all ), but I would think they could reflash the PCM back to stock, then start over?
