Default water pump leak?

After driving the car tonight I noticed coolant underneath. Felt under the waterpump housing where the pump mates with the block and it felt wet there. Does not appear to be leaking at the pump shaft just below at the gasket but it's hard to tell could be leaking at the shaft and running down. Anyone run into this? Time for a new pump?

Comments/input appreciated.

Age, miles?? Sounds like a new pump is needed, leaking from weep hole or shaft likely.

Mine started leaking at about 21,000 miles. Had it replaced before it gave out completely.

I'd check the hoses briefly before tearing off the pump. Several connections there as well as the throttle body coolant lines right above the pump. I'd make sure it isn't a simple leaking rubber hose, then replace the pump.

It's a '99 w/ 75000 on it.. Most likely original pump. I bought a new one from NAPA today.. Lifetime warranty for $157.

This post made me start searching for other DIY posts on steps to change the water pump. Anyone have a link?

(Gratz on the 300k mark. How many miles do you have now?)

Good to hear this about the life of your water pumps. I was beginning to wonder if I should start thinking about looking at my water pump. I hope I am still driving mine at 300k miles.

I actually just posted on where is the best place to buy a water pump, especially since my local stealership wanted 353.10. I'm actually in the middle of replacing mine as we speak. I had the same problem and unless I'm blind I did'nt see a weap hole like normal which confused me also. After a harder inspection it looks like a part of the gasket failed. Its really not to bad to replace once I took the supercharger off,(PITA). Due to the miles I'm going to replace the water pump any ways because I know 200 miles down the road and it will go out, just my luck!!!
