I told the girl specifically that I want a genuine GM Z06 windshield. I even wrote down everything it said it the corner of the windshield and read it to her. She said they would get the same one. So I just picked up the car and in the corner it has the PY logo and than says AS1 M848and than something else. So not only is it not a Z06 windshield but not even a genuine Corvette Coupe windshield. It's a frikkin cheap Chinese knock-off! CLEARLY NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!? My Insurance company is Allstate and they recommended this place. I live on Long Island NY. The place is called One-Stop auto glass in medford, NY. The one good thing is the install looks good. Can't even tell it was replaced.
yes the receipt/authorization to pay was signed but that shouldn't matter. We expected it was done as agreed and it wasn't. This was Allstates recommended place, so in my mind they have to make good on it. I demanded OEM glass to both Allstate and the glass company. They did not provide this.
As far as calling, I called Allstate not the glass place and they said their warranty dept has to call back and will do so within 2 days.
As far as the windshield I have in there, to be honest it looks perfectly fine, very clear and everything. And it appears they did a real nice job on the install. Normally this place will come to your house and do the install but they said with my car they wanted me to bring it in so they could really take their time and do a good job. they took 2-3 hours to do it and it looks perfect. All around the edges with the trim and everything, you can't even tell it was replaced. But this is a corvette Z06 and not a cavalier, and it should have a corvette Z06 windshield, which is made by AP Technoglass, quality windshield made here in the good ole USA, not FY which is a chinese company. Also, I saw in another thread a glass guy who said the FY windshields are not as good of quality.
You may have come across my post in the C5 Tech section. I am having similar issues with the glass company I selected to replace my windshield. I was told everything was OEM, but then they tried to pass a Pilkington windshield off on me. Needless to say I didn't accept it, and it turned into a huge debate over what "OEM" really means....
My advice is keep your windshield for now and replace it within a year. There isn't much point in risking needless damage to your car by having this one replaced by a bitter installer.
The Z06 glass is thinner. Get a price from a delaer and tell Allstate to reimburse you the cost of the part. If you have a good install I probably would leave it alone. Get some momey for the next one.
I would NEVER take it back to the same place. Thats suicide! Not that they didn't do a nice install this time, but you don't say FU to a place and than expect them to re-do it properly. It will go to a different place for sure....
it just pissed me of SO MUCH that give detailed instruction to a place that is supposed to be professionals in this ONE area and they F*ck it up. Drives me crazy!! So many businesses in this great land of ours are run by total moron's, ignoramus' and greedy C*ck suckers!!!!!!!!!

Is it 4.8mm thick (OEM Z06 type) or is it thicker glass?
This is very typical of practically everyone who is trying to get a Z windshield replaced.
I had the same problem with the dealer that did my repairs.
When I talked with the actual guy who did the replacement (who claims to have been doing this for years) didn't even know about the weight difference in the Z from the coupe (by the way the vert has the same glass as the Z)
I made them change it out, not because it was "wrong" but because it had a distortion in it on the drivers side lower corner, and it was not OEM glass which was specified by me and my Ins. Co. I even asked them to leave the GM parts sticker on the windshield so I could see it when I came back to pick up the car.

Wow, so sorry this happened to you. BUT, I may have a solution for you-for next time. I had to replace my front glass too. I have Allstate. I took my car to LI (I live in Queens) to a really, really great place. Their name is Triumph/Bender Auto Glass in Lynbrook. PM me for the info(don't know if I can give this out on the forum). Anyways what a great bunch of guys. When the first windshield came in it wasn't OEM so THEY sent it back! When the correct one showed up ,man I can't tell you how they took their time and made sure that it went in correctly! They even ordered all new weatherstripping for around the doors (hell Allstate covered it all!) and new moldings for around the door. They told Allstate that once the moldings come off they could not guarantee that there would be no leaks unless they got new ones! The guys were awesome. Really cared about the car. Like they said,,"Hey this ain't no regular car..it's a Corvette!"
That sounds great, thanks Don. I'll have to make a bit of a trip too as I am way out East in Shirley. Lynbrook is 45 mins to an hour away. But it sounds like it would be worth it.
Sterling auto glass right next door to Hustead Chevy in Centereach on middle country road is the place to go and they are vette lovers and know their stuff plus while it is there in the same office is Rocket detailing who will massage your babies paint.
You are lucky there is no distortion in it. I had my windshield replaced and only when I drove it did I notice a lot of distortion. Even the installer/owner agreed and it was replaced. Before they installed the second windshield I had them hold the glass and the driving angle and I moved my head side to side. Sure enough this one was distorted too. The shop actually had a second windshield and again they held it up and this time this windshield was distortion free. Now I learned to check the windshield before it is installed.
If your windshield was made in China I would definitely have it taken out - if US made I might just keep it has I hate to have the car worked on. I would also put pillows on the seat to protect them from damage if the installer put all his weight on one knee into the seats. When they did this to my car they popped so stiching(sp?).

I used to work for Triumph Auto Glass. 99% of thier glass comes from Mexico. BE SURE THEY ARE GIVING YOU WHAT YOU ASK FOR! I cannot stress this enough. Look at the glass before they install it. If it's not glass from Mexico they will usually buy it from another vendor like Safelight or PPG. You may want to call them first.

You can't get any work done right on a car anymore unless you order the parts yourself and do it yourself.
There's a guy here at work with a VW--his engine blew at 140k mi. Turns out prev. owner changed timing belt at 80k mi and they didn't adjust it right. It all let go and valves kissed pistons. Short block is ok but he has to re-set up the heads--he's doing all the work himself.
So--my philosophy on used cars now is low miles only to keep mechanics / shops out of the car as long as possible.
