I went down that same road - with a dealership... they had no clue what to order, or that a Z06 had a different windshield. They installed coupe replacement glass and then didn't understand why I was angry. Good luck getting this straightened out... I finally accepted a $500 payment and took the car and left. I only did that because I knew I was unloading the car within the next year anyway - had I waited to have it fixed, it would have been 6 weeks to get the OEM glass.

When I had my windshield replaced last year, I spoke to the manager to make sure I was getting OEM glass. He told me that even if I hadn't asked, he always uses OEM glass in any expensive specialty car. He doesn't like to waste time having to deal with p.o.'ed car owners after trying to use inferior quality parts. He just does it right the first time, and they did. They sent two installers to my house to do it and they did a great job. I actually forgot all about it until this thread came up. If anyone in north Jersey is interested, the place is named after the most expensive gem that is a girl's best friend, in Andover (that okay?).

Same company as Triumph. I had issues with them wanting me to not tell the whole truth to customers and the insurance companies. Again, most of the glass hecho en Mexico. I was in San Antonio and sent truck loads of distorted south of the border glass north. Not saying all stores do this. I am sure there are some good managers. Just speaking from the standpoint of an exemployee at one location. My manager walked for the same resons as I did. 5 of 7 employees left that day. This was in 2001. Maybe things have changed. Just be very sure of what you are buying as Mexico does not recognise US copyrights or patents.

A GM dealership is the best way. Compare the logo and numbers etched in the glass. Be sure the numbers are the same the on being taken out. Also the etched numbers should be very sharp and clear. Counterfeit glass etching is fuzzy and inconsistant. Some else may have some other advise too. This is just my 2 cents worth.

Should look like this, the below glass has been replaced and came from the GM dealer.

I don't have a picture of it at work... but it's factory part# is 10315114

Gm parts house shows it for some $670 (which is a significant break)

EDIT: Replacement people like to claim ignorance, and perhaps they are. Seems interesting, however, to note that there is about a $500 difference between the correct part and the part they so often stick in a C5 Z06.

Here are the GM part numbers for the different windshields.....

1997 and 1998 Coupe use 10295096 (HUD not an option)
1999 to 2004 Coupe use 10295096 NO HUD
1999 to 2004 Coupe use 10426713 WITH HUD

1998 Convertible 10295097 (HUD not an option)
1999 thru 2004 Convertible use 10295097 NO HUD
1999 thru 2004 Convertible use 10426714 WITH HUD 10315114

1999 - 2000 FRC use 10295097 NO HUD
1999 - 2000 FRC use 10426714 WITH HUD 10315114
2001 - 2004 Z06 use 10426201 10315114

So we end up with 5 original windshields ...... with 4 current part numbers

10295096 for Coupe - no HUD
10295097 for Convertible and FRC - no HUD
10426713 for Coupe with HUD
10426714 Convertible and FRC with HUD - now 10315114
10426201 Z06 now 10315114

Guys ... that windshield is marked EXACTLY LIKE THE OEM one in my 2002 Zee, which I bought new and still has the OEM factory windshield.

as pointed out by ZeeOsix, this glass came from GM because I was there when it came in.

10315114 was the part # IIRC.

Well I finally had time to look up the picture and come back here... appears that is the right glass... so nice though to see that some people like to act completely classless when someone else errors. No one is perfect - my recollection of the signature on the glass was that it wasn't that. At any rate, you have the right one there - and to the poster of the quoted message, well, get a grip. I don't even have that car any more, and I'm just here to help those who do since I owned one for 6 years and 103k miles.

Are you calling me classless after possibly telling me I was ignorant? Just wondering, I will no longer respond to this thread, the OP got the answer that was sought after.

Yes that picture is the correct OEM windshield and exactly what mine said (minus the HUD part) before it was replaced. It's made by AP Technoglass here in the good ole' USA.

In the statement of mine that you quoted I was refering to the companies that do the replacement for the dealerships (and some of the dealerships themselves). After having the wrong windshield put in, they will often say, "I didn't know there was a difference." Somehow I thought that read pretty straight-forward.
